yet they let Marvin Harrison in? with his legit off the field issues? T.O. was a more dangerous WR and a better blocker on the field.

Marvin Harrison a Hall finalist; slaying victim's kin still seek answers

Her husband, Horace, who described himself as a "football nut," will do what he always does whenever someone on television mentions Harrison: He will either turn down the volume or change the channel, just so she doesn't hear. Her daughter Nya, 16, will fight that familiar feeling she sometimes gets - that her older brother will just bound through the back door, unannounced, and scoop her up for a hug.

Whoever Dwight "Pop" Dixon was when he was on the streets - before and after a gun registered to Harrison was used to shoot Dixon in April 2008, before Dixon was shot again in July 2009 and died less than two months later - he was not that person when he walked into that rowhouse. And whoever Marvin Harrison is to so many of those media members and Hall of Fame voters and football fans, he is someone else entirely to Pearl Bronson.

An eyewitness, Robert Nixon, was also shot and injured, according to police. In his statement to police - which he began by saying that he feared for his safety in coming forward - Nixon identified Harrison as the shooter, as the only person at the scene holding a gun. Police said they matched bullet casings found at the scene to a gun registered to Harrison.

Agree... HOF is a damn joke with its politics.

T.O. is the definition of a First Ballot Hofer. (Marvin had to go in at some stage, but why not leave Dungy out & put two WRs in, clear the damn logjam)

If Calvin walks in clean in 5 years time, the hall will lose all my respect. (Man, I'm salty right now.)

Plain N Simple T.O. got screwed
No question that TO deserves to be in the HOF. In my opinion it's a good thing that it wasn't on the first ballot.

Screw "politics" if you're a first class A-hole, no matter how good you are you should not be a first-ballot HOFer.

I see some are upset by this turn of events, it's a crappy thing in our society when we celebrate people being jerks and being classy seems to be passé.

It's too bad that the organization crumbled around him while TO was here.

Had things been different we remain a winning organization in the early 2000's and TO remains a 49er for many more years then becomes a first-ballot HOFer, but whatever.

HOF Voters are instructed not to take items outside of football into consideration.

That said, Harrison's issues were outside of football. TO's were inside of football. Most effective argument against him during the debate was that 3 teams dropped him at the peak of his career.
Great talent...should have kept his damn mouth shut !!!

Owens was completely disrespected on Saturday. The numbers are undeniable. We all know the writers knocked him for all the locker room distractions.

Do you think any of those writers remembered Owens putting his career on the line, going against the doctors advice, by playing in the Super Bowl?

Do you think the writers took that situation into consideration as a locker room distraction?

All Owens did was catch 9 balls for 122 yards with a broken leg and a torn ligament in his ankle.

What an embarrassment for the NFL.

He is, by definition, NOT a first ballot hall of famer. He has no one to blame for his situation but himself. No one likes a selfish douche, and he became one of his own free will.

Apparently people forgot that leaving the 49ers was Owens's choice, he wasn't dropped. You know, before the revisionist historians came in and pretended Owens didn't attempt to void the final years of his contract to become a free agent, only for his agent to miss the deadline and them to request a trade, only for Donahue to trade him to the Ravens and Owens to file a grievance and wind up in a 3-team trade where we got the great Brandon Whiting instead of the Ravens' 2nd round pick.

Just like how people like to forget that Garcia and Owens weren't teammates anymore (summer '04) when Owens did the Playboy interview answering the question about the rumors of Garcia being gay by implying he thought he was. And how they conveniently don't mention Garcia being gay was a popular joke for years while he was on the team, to the point where he was referred to by other fan bases at the time as, "Garthia."

Add yet that very thing is what single-handedly made him a villain. He was called "shy and quiet" his first four years in the NFL.
