Terrell Owens Thread: Hall of Fame?

I never said put nice guys in, or implied any of the garbage you tried to put in my mouth.

Here let me simplify, when I say the Hall is about more than numbers, I mean numbers are the base line, the starting point.

You need more than numbers, but you still need numbers.

TO has ONLY NUMBERS on his side, and lacks every other metric, tangible and intangible to be considered an all time great, a hall of famers, a hero.
Other then numbers, what else is there?

Did he dominate on the field? Yes
Does he have the numbers to back it up? Yes

That's all the HOF should be.

Has he ever been arrested? NO
Did he kill anyone? NO
Did he rape anyone? NO
Did he cheat? NO

TO burned bridges and that's the only thing he and people like you have against him. That should not be a reason why a person don't get into the HOF.

People are too sensitive these days. Bunch of pansy girly boys.

Was he a solid teammate
Did he make clutch catches in the biggest games
Did he win championships
Did he elevate his teammates
Was he a good spokesperson for the game
Did he respect the game

FYI, don't quote me, and call me a pansy.

Numbers are the base line, stats are for pussies and nerds

That's a pretty low bar you're setting. IN SPITE of the numbers he put up every team he played for was happy to see him go. Apparently deciding that whatever upside he had as a player he simply wasn't worth all of the headaches he caused in the locker room. It's possible to be a cancer without being a convict. Your argument is a little silly. Strictly on a numbers basis it's hard to argue that Owens doesn't deserve to go in but you'd like to think that the Hall represents something more about the game than just numbers, that the players it nominates were somehow and enhancement to the game and its evolution. But maybe it doesn't, maybe numbers are supposed to be enough. Its the same question I have about Frank Gore. I mean I loved Frank, he was a solid professional and has hung around long enough to put up some pretty nice numbers but how did his play fundamentally change the game? How many championships did he help his team win? But because Frank was a pro's pro, was never a distraction and was a true 49er I would have no real beef with him getting in, Owens on the other hand was just an a*****e and I would be perfectly happy to see him never get in.
I'd say let's get Roger Craig in then we can discuss TO.

Where does it say that the hall of fame is accepting "Nice guys", "Team players", or guys who "sacrificed their stats or pay cheques for the team"?.

The hall of fame is ONLY ABOUT NUMBERS. And if you want to consider all other things someone has done outside of the lines, then take a look back at everyone currently in the Hall and take them out. LT, Favre, Irvin, OJ etc. You have drugs, arrests and everything else. Irvin nearly killed a teammate with a pair of scissors in the locker room.

Embellishing a bit, aren't we? No, the HoF is not only about numbers or A-hole TO would already be in.
The mission statement of the hall of fame makes no mention of Stats...

http://www.profootballhof.com/visit/hall-of-fame-history/

Not only does it not mention stats it specifically mentions promoting it's values.

Mission Statement:
Honor the Heroes of the Game
Preserve its History
Promote its Values
Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE

Being a flipping jerk and an eventual cancer in every locker room he's ever been in doesn't really promote the Halls values i'd assume. TO was a bad teammate. He had issues with teammates on EVERY team except maybe Cinci.

From the way the story was told by Pearlman, he did actually almost kill him with where he swung the scissors.

Make a hall if stats for nerds, and put him in it.

Charles Haley was HATED by his teammates with the 49ers and Cowboys but had the numbers...and got in the HOF.
Ray Lewis was tried for murder. Mike Irvin arrested for Cocaine, domestic violence, trying to stab a teammate...and gets in.
OJ...i know it was after the fact) spent time in prison and is STILL in the HOF!!!

if Randy Moss gets in and TO doesn't...it is definitely personal and rigged!!!

Link? I know he was an odd odd duck, reportedly doing some weird s**t, but never heard that any of his teammates hated him.

1. According to his former teammates, hew as a great teammate
2. Yes, he did.
3. No, but neither did many Hall of Famers.
4. Yes, he did. He carried those early 00s 49ers teams to the playoffs. Those teams would have been lucky to win 7 games without him. Calvin Johnson couldn't even get the 2008 Lions a single win.
5. Spokesperson for the game? What is that? He was a Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist in 2003.
6. He respected it enough to work his tail off and earn the respect of all his teammates.

No team was ever happy to see him go.

Owens's former teammates loved him. You're wrong.

No, Owens was a great teammate. His former teammates say this themselves.

The only issues he ever had with teammates (twice in his entire career) were caused by the media flat-out lying about what Owens said about them in a couple of instances, and the two of them (both known jerks with 3 combined DUIs) believing what the media told them and becoming upset over it.

Odd that such an elite talent changed teams so often while in his prime

What, twice, with one of them being when he filed for free agency, his agent missed the deadline, and he requested a trade from a team that let go of 6 other offensive starters in a rebuilding year?
I'll never understand the hate for TO by some Niner fans. Dude was tame compared to some of the bone heads in the NFL right now. He was the ultimate diva receiver, but he played with so much passion and heart. It was like watching a kid live out his childhood dream every week.
