I really liked Aldon his rookie year. He looked like a guy who really could be a stud in this league. However people can say what they want but the loss of Cowboy Smith really showed how much he led to a great year by Aldon. Without Smith taking up 2 blockers Aldon couldn't get through.
Maybe his demons contributes to his drop but he just never has looked the same without Cowboy.

How do you explain Aldon's production when J. Smith wasn't on the field?
Also, I guess you can say this about every great pass rusher though because T-E stunts do require one of the D-line guys to hold if possible. Similar to how having Dee Ford on one side really helped Bosa and when Ford went out Bosa's numbers dropped off dramatically.

Justin Smith never came off the field when he played. Look at 2015 stats while Aldon played. Massive decline from previous years. Then you look at the 2015 season without J Smith at all. Aldon looked very different again. he had the speed and length to win when being blocked by 1 guy But he was pretty much mute if that one guy was any good with out Justin being the guy to take on the stud blockers. If Aldon was doubled he couldn't do a thing.

How much do you think the drinking and drugging had to do with his drop off?
I guess we will see this year.

I couldn't honestly say it didn't do anything to aid in his drop. I'm sure it contributed to his fall. I'm glad he got another chance but I'm also one of those people who gets upset when players get 3,4 and 5 chances at something when some hardworking others who do things on the straight line from day one don't even get a first chance.
I hope he realizes how lucky he is and takes it seriously and become something others can look up to if they fall off the wagon.

Football is a merit based deal, best players will play regardless of anything else. If a player can play football better than the next guy, well then he's gonna play and keep getting chances. If a great person tries out but can't play football then he is in the stands or at best on the sideline watching the action. I have seen football done in ways where people put the people they like on the field, daddy ball concepts and it almost never works without talent.

He was also destroying guys one on one and a good edge setter. He was a HOF caliber player no doubt about it.
The Justin Smith thing happened but Aldon was still a stud. It was just overblown to help justify the sting of watching him ruin his career with us and forcing us to cut him.

Hopefully he makes it
Cowboys DE Aldon Smith: "I got to a point where I was fed up with how I was living my life, and I knew I needed to change." Grandma, who had ALS, passed last year. Her final message was to "do better" and get what he deserved in life.

Aldon's drop off was never about Justin it was about his torn Labrum. Go look it up.
It's the one of the laziest takes that everyone had on here and it still pisses me off. Take 3 minutes to watch Aldons tape and you wouldn't assume he couldn't beat OL without Justin's help.
I never want to hear that take again.

His Labrum was fixed after the 2012 season. It shouldn't have been a huge impact in 2013 season when he played in 11 games. It also shouldn't have impacted his play in the 9 total games he played in 2014 & 2015 seasons with SF and Oak. In those 2 seasons combined he put up just 5.5 sacks. But in those 2 seasons he had to deal with all his off season issues with domestic violence, multiple DUIs, firing guns, and making false bomb threats at airports. Now could he have been better on the field without all the issues? Most likely but we will never know. But to say it's a lazy take that he benefited quite a bit with the help of Cowboy I just have a differing of opinion.Originally posted by stonecold590:Originally posted by Waterbear:Originally posted by stonecold590:Originally posted by glorydayz:Originally posted by stonecold590:I really liked Aldon his rookie year. Now with that said, I hope he can comeback and be a good player as he once was and help young players to not make those same personal mistakes. To become a leader.

I'm proud of Aldon turning inward and working on himself. Come back player of the year 14 sacks
