Here's the short, of the story ... as per the game commentators:
1) Steelers Coaches, liked him, and envisioned him as their eventual backup to Ben ... just wasn't ready yet.
2) when ben went down -- Management realised they weren't feelin' their (at the time) 2nd String QB
3) So they look to Veteran experience, and pickup Vick ...
4) Supposedly knowing that they would eventually go with Landry Jones
