This whole thing is just frustrating after it had looked like we might be returning to respectability and now we're dropping the ball.

FA has not even begun and the draft is still to come. They made a trade for a player that we did not, possibly because we were not willing to meet the Chiefs demands for the compensation. IMHO you are overreacting. We have gotten better IMO, by getting a long term deal done with our QB it means we no longer have to worry about that and it sends out a signal that the 49ers are not afraid to pay for talent.

In no way does what the Rams did mean we dropped the ball. Games are won on the field not in the offseason. We have the money and draft capital at our disposal to improve this roster and I am sure we will make some moves to do so.

Funny you mention Lattimore. You spent all year trying to say Solomon was the better pick.

Want to check again? I said Lattimore was probably the only guy you could've said should've been the pick over Sully. But at the time Sully made the most sense because of the 1 year of starting and the injury concerns for Lattimore but I'd be an idiot to claim Lattimore isn't a stud.

Forthcoming. But rumored to either be a 1st and future picks, or a bevy of future picks. They don't have a 2nd this year. Has to be something special to trump the Niners.
The only player in the last 25 years to have more INT than @marcuspeters in his first 3 NFL seasons is Ed Reed

The last 5 on your list can't hold his jock strap.

Xavier Rhodes is absolutely a Top 5 CB in the league. Seems to me that the minute Peters gets an INT he's setup for either a 59 yard PI next or a 70 yard TD allowed. He's a huge boom or bust player.
While it stings seeing an All Pro go to the Rams, I'm glad to see we were in discussions. This tells me we really are always trying to get better. If the compensation was a 3rd and 4th then I'd be upset we didn't pull the trigger, but if this 1st rd pick rumor is right then I totally get it. No one imagined the Chiefs would get a mid 1st for Peters so we likely just thought it was too pricey (correct given character concerns and that he's gonna get PAID in 2 yrs) or called their bluff, either way people shouldn't be pissed we didn't make this move and should be encouraged that we're one of only a few teams calling on these players getting shopped.

Yeah. It always makes sense to draft s guy who has no position and is blocked by one of the best interior linemen in the league.
Peters is good, but he does give up too many big plays. He gambles, which gets you picks but also gets you burnt regularly. If the ask was a one (and possibly more), then good for the Rams but I wouldn't have done it. Not giving up 9/10 plus another pick(s).

Plenty of young talent at the CB position is going to be available in FA and the draft.
The price has to be enormous considering the draft capital the 49ers have with the 4 picks in first 3 rounds including 2 early 3rds. The Rams have a 1st and a 3rd this year. I will be shocked if the Rams don't part with either this year's or next year's 1st plus late picks. Or this year's 3rd and next year's 2nd and 3rd.

This...people need to stop reading the box scores. Yes INTs are a sexy stat but in his prime Darrelle Revis had a year with 0 picks. Why? Because the other teams just flat out didn't throw in his direction.

I remember a season where Deltha O'Neal had like 10 picks. Anyone consider him a top 5 CB?

Thats the rams advantage, their 1st is in the 20s. If the team trading the guy wants a 1st for him its much easier to pull the trigger with a later pick as opposed to a top 10 pick.

i would not mind us drafting the kid from iowa and replacing asa with vontae

Let's wait and see what the cost was for LA
Rams gave up a lot of draft value for a dude because they are deathly afraid of our passing game and they know they can't sit still or the Niners will punk their Window.

Good for them. I like the fact that the Rams are to be hated again
