I wouldn't even say he managed the game well. 1 int, 1 fumble lost, no TD's and 140 yards? That has to be in the running for the worst game by a winning QB. Rothlesberger probably keeps the record at 123 yards and to ints, but this was close.

He should almost feel bad about the win. LOL
So does kyle williams get a ring?

Pretty sure Williams, Davis and Manning all get rings. Pretty funny.

Of course there was a story line. I think there were quite a few story lines.

- Incredible defense wins championships.

- Peyton Manning is a shell of his former self.

- Cam Newton may know how to win, but he damn well doesn't know how to lose with any kind of grace.

- Cam Newton is soft.

- Aldon Smith WAS better than Von Miller -- ouch.

so a weak broken down Peyton Manning can do what a younger fully healthy QB can do ? is that the ironic part

Cam was throwing to an open WR deep down the sideline on the Von Miller strip sack that sealed the game. That makes the Miller play even bigger.

Very obvious what Wade Philip's gameplan was regarding the passing game. With that front 4 applying the pressure, DEN played a bunch of different coverages, zone, man, split coverages, and disguised his coverages too. Cam had no idea wtf he was looking at even when he had time.

Proof that a noodle armed, immobile, check down specialist can be carried to a super bowl win.

Play of the game.

DEN had been mixing up their coverages all game long. There was no way Cam could have known what he was about to get from DEN's defense on this play.
CAR looks to get a high/low read to Cam's left. Cam looks left the whole way. It's a good call versus the coverage.
vs Cover6

The read is on the Cover2 flat defender (orange), looking to get a vertical stretch. It's not a quick developing play so Cam has to hold and wait for the Out route to suck orange up, so that the Corner route can attack the area behind orange.

The Cover2 safety (blue) turns his hips inwards, the opposite way of the Corner route, probably because he thought he was about to see a Post route. This makes it a win for the Corner route.

The flat defender sees the Out route (red route) and has to stick to it. This earns room for the Corner route to work.

They way Cam reaches back to windup makes me think he was going for the Corner. But Von Miller with the reach.

Cam needed to step up and into the throw.

He would of avoided Miller coming around the edge.

Basics.

Agreed. He had plenty of room. Stepping up into a pocket always helps out the tackles on deep dropbacks. He was nearly 10 yards behind the LoS trying to throw that.

I saw He didn't hitch several times in the game. He was standing flat footed and even leaning backwards on many throws.

Aren't the tackles here suppsed to take the OLB wide? And shouldn't cam know that and step up, even if he didn't see it. He's gotta trust his line here.

That's what i always thought anyway.

Thanks for posting that play breakdown. What I never realized is how much room Cam had if he decided to take off down the middle of the field. He could have had a 25 yard gain, easy.

Yup. On a deep drop like that, a QB should know that the edge rusher sees the deep drop and will try to beat the tackle up the field (around the edge). Step up into the pocket if available (it was), and help out the OTackle. That's a nice pocket to step into.
