We will either pull off a Watson trade or we getting a QB in the first round.

Stafford would cost $5m on the cap after restructure (2014 void year). They can still fit 2-3 impact FA with backloaded contract.
Is that counting the dead cap hit of $22 million for Goff remaining after the trade?

If they restructure that many contracts it's 2021 SB or bust, and for sure bust for 2022 and 2023 at least. But I think they'll pull of a move like that. Literally going all in for 2021.

Mike Silver, who I respect as a source and a writer, just put up a good piece about the trade and how LA handled (mishandled) the divorce between Goff and the Rams. In a nutshell, Silver implied the league had caught up to McVay to a certain extent, and because Goff was not able to make up the difference, he was made the scapegoat. Now, Goff is in Detroit, where he is wanted, and in a system that will fit his skill-set well. Worth a read.

The Rams and Seahawks must think the rest of the league overvalues mid-to-late first round picks. Interesting thesis.

Since, the Super Bowl year for the Rams I've been very unimpressed by their offense. That Goff/Mahomes dual was fantastic, but that was the Rams offensive peak. They have solid receivers, pretty good young backs, worn out offensive line, and some tight ends. They still have salary cap issues to deal with.
I thought Stafford would be a good fit here, because Jimmy is out so often. I don't think Stafford is a major upgrade over Goff. I like the Lions receivers more. Stafford has some horrifically bad plays every season.
I laughed when I heard the Rams were going for Stafford, because I didn't see a realistic path. I will give them credit for getting it done, but they are going to suck so bad very soon.

While he is still in the NFC, it's good that I can root for the cal kid again. I still think he has plenty to prove but hoping he makes it work in detroit.

I'm tracking with you on this. They keep upping the ante on how far you can delay the consequences of your decisions. They gave up a lot of draft picks to get Goff, then they gave out a bunch of huge contracts with long-term liabilities, then they decided to try multitasking and did a bit of both with Ramsey. This Stafford business is just the next progression, but at this point I don't think Snead and McVeigh have much to lose by taking it to the extreme.

In the Seahawks case, I think its more on them busting on 1st rounders anyways. Better to trade for proven talent.

I mean its pretty much a meme at this point that the seahawks do not know how to draft in the 1st.

For everyone that talks about them going to the playoffs 3 out of 4 years, well, yes they are a good team right now. But missing 7 straight years of first round picks WILL catch up to you. It helps to have a HOF level talent in Aaron Donald and an All pro level talent in Jalen Ramsey. But if they don't get guys that overperform their draft position for the next few years, this will catch up to them. The NFC West is going to be very interesting for the next few years.

The Rams never have 1st round picks and they are stupid because of that right?
Yeah I guess Solomon Thomas, Rueben Foster and Mike McGlinchey are studs and we really needed Javon Kinlaw.
Oh and Nick Bosa has had ACL´s in his 2 knees.
