Yeah I guess Solomon Thomas, Rueben Foster and Mike McGlinchey are studs and we really needed Javon Kinlaw.

Oh and Nick Bosa has had ACL´s in his 2 knees.

With all those busts, the Rams outta be ashamed losing to the 49ers five out of the last seven.
The rams D is extremely overrated. Their safeties are not good snd their lbs aren't even average imo. Their run D isn't good just like the last few years. But hey....#1 Defenss statistically. I would easily take our defensive roster over theirs.
#1 D that was destroyed by the packers in the playoffs.

If you believe Florio, Stafford was plan B to Aaron Rodgers.

Well, yes we did need Kinlaw and he is going to be a stud. And yes, the Rams are stupid to trade away their 1st round picks for the best part of a decade. And Bosa was dominant, and will be again.

Let's get this straight. The draft is a lottery. Some you win, some you lose. But the ones you win give you low coast players for three or four years. If you trade those picks away for high priced free agents, the many holes that will develop in your roster over time will have to be filled by low round draft picks. Much the same as high picks, some of these will bust and others will succeed.but the percentage of failures is higher the lower you pick.

So yes, the Rams strategy is very stupid. They have perhaps one more season before it really bites them.

I agree that sooner of later this is going to catch up with the Rams and they're going to have to start shedding payroll. In the meantime, it's working sas far as keeping them in contention. What I wonder is what effect it has on players when they see the team trade their QB who just went out and played a week after thumb surgery when he wasn't 100%. Players know that eventually some of them are going to be considered too expensive and will be moved.

So besides the extra first round pick compensation - I'm not understanding why Detroit is in the position to -- or would want to -- take on Goff's huge cap hits? Is it because they figure they will rebuild with cheaper draft picks for now and can afford to? It still seems like that money could be used more wisely to add more talent. What is the thinking on that?

Detroit needs to rebuild and acquire talent.

Detroit isn't aiming for the SB in years 1 or 2 of a new HC hire.

The extra pick is valuable and they use up cap space in what should be non competitive years.

Goff can be kept or dumped and Detroit doesn't care right now.

I read that Carolina offered the 8th pick. Assuming that is true. Two first round picks likely in the 20's, and having to suck up Goff's contract seems like a bad deal to me. Maybe they will draft a QB and let him develop for a year or two and then not resign Goff.

I think the McVay's offensive hype train peaked against the Chiefs in 2018. They were scary for a little while. Without Gurley being effective in the Super Bowl they looked pathetic, and the Ram's defense played great that day.

The Lions got shut out by Carolina 20-0 without Bridgewater and McCaffrey playing, and Stafford played the whole game. Maybe Detroit know he is damaged goods.

My thinking is, Detroit are so completely disfunctional they really don't know what they are doing.

Detroit taking on Goff's salary is basically the cost of business of gaining that extra future 1st Round draft pick. Rams deemed it more essential to offload Goff's contract to any takers than keep their own draft picks.
