I understand the plus side of getting a known quantity whereas the draft is somewhat of a crapshoot, especially with QBs. The other more important side of the coin is sustaining your roster in the salary cap era. Long term success is building through the draft to get some superstars on rookie deals to mix with proven vets. Sooner or later, the Rams will be unable to keep their players or if one gets injured their depth will soley consist of late round/UDFA players.

I agree, and I think the Lambs are doing it bass-ackwards. If they don't think first round pick talent is all that and a bag of chips, just pick Trey Down like the Patriots and amass a boatload of 2nd and third round picks. anybody remember Walsh's '86 draft?

Got to go back thirty five years for a successful draft trade haul example???

You think? Maybe they decided not to work in a box and changed it to a sphere. If you think about it, teams only have a 2-3 year window in this era before they need to reload for a 2-year reduction in wins. Most player contracts are 3 years aside from franchise types of players that are 5 years. So, keeping the supporting cast for 3 years and not having draft picks during that time shouldn't make a difference. Once those 3 years are done and it's time for turnover again, minus franchisees, you have your draft picks back to reload.
So these guys can clear up over $50M in cap space, with a ton of restructures. And with the SB in LA I expect them to do it and then some. So frustrating watching them never have to pay a price for overspending.

The NFL should really limit the amount of money teams are allowed to restructure. it's a good way to keep teams out of salary cap hell, and "cheating" for a one year run; keeps everyone's competitive level balanced, which is the whole point of the cap.

We might have to match their moves. We must win the SB in their house. That would just be the cherry on top of our life long lamb-ownage cake.

It's not like only the Rams are allowed to restructure contracts ... every other team can do it too so it's a level playing field for everyone right now. This is an odd point to be frustrated over.

Personally I think teams that rely on trades and signing expensive free agents are teams that can't develop talent. You can win super bowls with that strategy-- after all Siefert used that to win the 5th Lombardi.

My problem with that strategy is its a feast or famin type strategy and the poor coach who goes along with this isn't (I think) in control. Its the GM. I just think these types of strategies don't result in consistent, stable and long term results. I think stability is one of the prerequisits to having good success in the NFL. This strategy kills any of that.
don't they still have to back up the brinks truck and sign Ramsey?

Thanks, so now it's seattles turn to back that brinks truck up to pay for a safety that can't get an int to save his life. But at least he's a good tackler, sack artist and good and run support

A safety that's great in the box but not great in pass coverage is only a problem in the Donte Whitner/Dashon Goldson era......right Hawks fans?

So true....they were On pace for a historically bad pass defense and that was even when Adams was playing
