Rare to see a team push all their chips in like this. On a philosophical level I disagree with their approach. Not having any first round picks for like 7 years is not how to build a franchise long term. It is SB or bust and they will bust hard in a couple years. Would love to see them fall short of a SB and spend a decade or so in the cellar.

Staying competitive does not rely on making a pick in the 1st round. I would argue that using that pick to attain a player with high value is a better strategy than hoping your pick turns out to be worth the draft slot. If you follow that with wise picks in the following rounds, you can stay competitive for a long time.
It all comes down to the perception of the team. In the case of the Rams, they are in one of the top two markets, the celebrity factor is high, and the team plays an attractive style of offense. That lone goes a long way to attracting FAs that do not insist on breaking the bank. Players want money but there comes a time when they have plenty of money, now they want a ring. Such is the case with OBJ.

At the end of the day they are gonna get capped out. They basically already are. OBJ and Von rentals for the rest of the year and gone. Unless they stay on peanut contracts. They will have to redo Stafford likely this offseason for just unreal dollars. Stafford has absolute leverage after all they gave up to acquire. He could get around $40 mil annual. At this point the Rams will face some very difficult choices. Football is a team game they are trying to go the NBA route of having the brightest superstars the best "Big 3". It'll bite em in the end I bet.

Wow, this is a big loss for them.
On the same day that the team signed WR Odell Beckham Jr., Rams' WR Robert Woods tore his ACL at practice Friday, sources tell @diannaESPN and me.

And, the Rams better hope they don't have any more injuries to key players - they just lost one of their top WRs in Woods yesterday. Hate to see guys injured but it's football, and as the Niners know all too well injuries can happen any given week. Now, the Rams are really hoping OBJ can fit in with what they do, be a team player, be healthy, and be productive.
We'll see how the Rams' strategy works out this season and in years to come. Hoping going "all in" this season backfires on them.

We've been saying they are going to pay for going all in for 5 years now. I just think they know what they're doing.

And then the Rams collect a 3rd-4th round compensatory pick in 2023.

OBJ can replace the production Woods had. It would of been a big loss if OBJ signed elsewhere

I agree that he can in theory, but not in the same way. Woods is a dog. Dude is game as hell, tough, and very physical. He's like their version of Deebo. Woods is one of the most underrated WRs in the league.
It's a big loss for sure.

lol this. they traded so many picks for players 5-6 years ago, all those guys are gone and were paid a lot, and they were still able to rebuild and acquire really good talent.

You gotta love Les Sneads aggressiveness towards building his team. I admit, I laughed at him and mocked a lot in the past, but TBH I wish the 9ers were exactly like that team.

ya i kinda didn't think it would work out like this either. a lot of times it fails after you go all in like he did several years back. somehow they did it again...
