While that was a savage quote from Witherspoon and adds to the fun of the rivalry, I am not buying it in real life. This is just Wade Phillips building his dynamic defense in the mold that he did in Denver and the way he wants. Don't get it twisted, their defense is going to be very tough next year. In a lot of ways though it shows how much McVay is only half a coach. Shanahan has to be a complete head coach with a defensive coordinator learning on the job. McVay is essentially following the instructions of a much mor experienced coach in his D coordinator who tells him how its going to go, who to go get and now go focus on the offensive side of the ball. Nice position to be in but hardly genius, Wunderkind, Head Coach of the Year material that McVay gets credit for. Either way though, while I think we will be a tough out for them, I do not consider us ready to be in a position to dominate the Rams for the NFC West starting next year as of yet. Not because our coach and GM don't have the skills (and our QB is the best in the division I don't care what anyone says) but simply because they have a few years on us in development of talent while Baalke was busy destroying us.

The Rams are actually playing this pretty smart there going for it while there QB is still on his rookie contract much easier to load up like this.

I'll take Robinson (should we sign him), Garcon, Goodwin, and Taylor over that secondary. Or maybe we go with Taylor Gabriel (more speed) and Dion Lewis.

Isn't the HC coaches job to do the best for his team to win?
Half a coach.

Back in the day, Bill Walsh and Sam Wyche were Bff's, incredible coaches, had nothing but love and respect for one another, pushed each other to greatness, etc. and inevitably, met in the Supetbowl...and historically, had one of the greatest Supetbowls ever with the 92 yard drive and TD to John Taylor FTW. To this day, it was the only Superbowl that if you joined the TV broadcast immediately after the game, you could not tell who won or lost. To me, that's the best in sports and how it should be.
With Shanahan and McVay, we might be heading down a similar path.
I'm looking forward to this rivalry!
Well said!!!

Rams gonna Rams. Lets spend what is likely a high 2nd round pick on an ok player in the last year of his contract.....
Like I keep saying, the only risk on Watkins is injury.
If he stays healthy this trade is golden. If he gets hurt, it sucks.
He's either a FA at the end of the year, or the Rams tag him and spend a boatload on a player who is notoriously injured. Dumb dumb trade. They are essentially banking on that fact that he will want to resign with the team at the end of the year. That's a dumb risk with a high 2nd as compensation. If he decides to walk, and they don;t tag him, they get a compensatory third in return, AT BEST. Swapping a high 2nd for a mid round pick for 1 year of Sammy Watkins? No effing thanks. If he was guaranteed to sign a new deal with the Rams as a condition of the trade then maybe, but that isn't the case.
Bet they wish they had that 2nd......

Yahoo Sports' Jordan Schultz reports free agent Ndamukong Suh will visit the Rams.
Suh has already visited with the Titans and Saints. Suh told Schultz he realized how much the Titans have to offer as a playoff team with a formidable defensive line and the same can be said for the Rams. A combination of Suh and Aaron Donald, who combined for 16 sacks and 134 total pressures last season, would solidify the Rams' line with two disruptive presences versus both the run and pass.

Good. I hope they sign him. I hope they spend 15 million on that overrated bum. Les Snead takes one step forward, two steps back all the time.
Think about it. THEY HAVE NO LINEBACKERS. Shanny will just run outside zone runs, get the D-line running sideways, tire them out. Our quick backs should be able to get to the 2nd level.
I couldn't be happier if the Rams dropped a bunch of cash on Sue.
As far as QB pressures. Jimmy has a fast release. Not worried.
