Good signing for the Rams. Not gonna lie I'm going to be afraid for Jimmy with his cheap shot ass out there.

Having said that when was the last time the FA winner won the SB?

the eagles did a bunch last offseason. but in general it rarely works.

Who did the Eagles sign who was flashy though? Biggest signing was maybe Alshon Jeffrey and it was a one year prove it deal since he was coming off a down year.

Pretty sure most of their deals were few days into FA as well. Definitely nothing "offseason winning"

They have no receivers, No TE, a backup calibre SS and literally 1 starting calibre LB out of 4.

Their D wasn't any good last year as they were 28th in the league vs the run. Suh will help some but not vs outside stretch runs. I fully expect Shanahan to exploit that.

Just like the Seahawks they key was to stop Lynch and keep Wilson in the pocket and the Rams will be to stop Gurley. Their offense revolves around him. And frankly that D doesn't scare me one bit.

We put up 44 vs the Jags who 'on paper' as you say are 10x better than the Rams in every area and we didn't even have our full offense.

I'm not worried.

I'm not worried about us vs. rams but rather rams vs. others
Although I'm generally against trading up in the 1st rd, I might be tempted to go up & get Quenton Nelson now. Wouldn't surprise me if Lynch does that, nor would it surprise me if he didn't. One thing's for sure, there's still work to be done to really establish a very strong interior OL. Richburg was a great start...let's see where JL & Coach go from here. Facing Donald & Suh twice a year gives you pause to think about how our braintrust counters that.
Not sure how anyone can fear the Rams D after seeing what Jimmy did to the Jags last year. That defense was leaps and bounds better than the Rams, and most of those guys had been playing together for at least one full year.

Let's also not forget that for all the headlines they got for their offense, it got shut down by good defenses.

1 TD (7 pts) vs Vikings
1 TD (13 pts) vs Falcons in the playoffs
1 TD (13 pts) vs Jags
1 TD (10 pts) vs Seattle (before everyone got hurt)

This has to be the biggest splash free agency ever

hologram ODB?

Niners will go 3-0 against the Rams
Damn, just as the Seahawks are falling apart the Rams are going to become the dominant team in the division. Our FO just sat on its hands while the Rams made the moves necessary to become a contender. I wonder if Lynch and Shanahan bought a little too much into the hype after our 5-0 finish and just assumed the division would be handed to us next year.

Do the Rams play a 3-4 D?

They do. Seems like an odd fit. I guess he plays DE?

While I am a very pessimistic person on this board, I have to say a few things:

The Rams are ready to compete now. Their window starts now. The 49ers are probably two years away from being in the Rams' shoes. I would say that the 2016 Rams are going to be the 2018 49ers. It took the Rams years upon years to accumulate their talent and they were very aggressive during the FA period. I don't think it would be in the 49ers best interest to be aggressive this year. They have to strike while the iron is hot, and right now, their iron is lukewarm....at best. However, I wish that this team would have been more aggressive addressing their o line issue.

2. The Rams are edging towards their salary cap max and they are trading away picks...which is fine for them, but would be foolish on the 49ers. The 49ers need to still build a complete defense. They have some good pieces: colpert, Buckner, Foster, etc...but they are probably 2 drafts away from collecting elite talent on that side of the ball. While I respect the Rams, I do not fear them. I would give them the division for this year and possibly in 2019, but the 49ers should sit pretty come 2020, if they play their cards right.

What do you suggest we should have done differently?

We signed our QB to a massive deal. Extended Goodwin, Coyle, Marsh and Gilliam.

Gave huge deals to Richburg and McKinnon and added two more solid players in Cooper and Attaochu.

We still have the 9th, 59th, 70th and 74th picks. All of which could play important roles. We have Josh Garnett, Arik Armstead and Jimmy Ward coming back all of whom will be solid depth at the very least and Garcon will be healthy. And we have the best QB in the division who will have a full off-season and and full playbook.

The Rams traded for 2 headaches and signed another and they may have alienated their best defensive player along the way. They traded away valuable picks and their best LB.

I think our off-season was much more productive than theirs especially for the future.
