Damn, just as the Seahawks are falling apart the Rams are going to become the dominant team in the division. I wonder if Lynch and Shanahan bought a little too much into the hype after our 5-0 finish and just assumed the division would be handed to us next year.
While I am a very pessimistic person on this board, I have to say a few things:
The Rams are ready to compete now. Their window starts now. The 49ers are probably two years away from being in the Rams' shoes. I would say that the 2016 Rams are going to be the 2018 49ers. It took the Rams years upon years to accumulate their talent and they were very aggressive during the FA period. I don't think it would be in the 49ers best interest to be aggressive this year. They have to strike while the iron is hot, and right now, their iron is lukewarm....at best. However, I wish that this team would have been more aggressive addressing their o line issue.
2. The Rams are edging towards their salary cap max and they are trading away picks...which is fine for them, but would be foolish on the 49ers. The 49ers need to still build a complete defense. They have some good pieces: colpert, Buckner, Foster, etc...but they are probably 2 drafts away from collecting elite talent on that side of the ball. While I respect the Rams, I do not fear them. I would give them the division for this year and possibly in 2019, but the 49ers should sit pretty come 2020, if they play their cards right.
Not directed at you pdizo916, but these overused terms:
We are Building the team the right way.
We are 2 years away yet.
Wtf
The nfl changes constantly. The rams could go to the Sb this year. Or not. If they do well in 2018, they could restructure and rework contracts. Lose some pieces, gain some pieces. Just like the pats, Steelers, and other teams do. Sometimes it works longer, sometimes it doesn't, look at the 49ers short run or the Seahawks. A couple of different moves and they would still be the top team to knock off.
The falcons seem to have pretty consistent success, so does that mean they are doing it the right way? Or the panthers? How about the chiefs? Philly just did it by being active in FA last year. It worked out. Now they are losing pieces and adding pieces and are still looked at as contenders. Are they in cap hell now? Or the Vikings? Huge players in FA and the Jags were huge players in FA Also..
Big surprise I know, but all of those teams are fielding a team for 2018 and guess what, they All are "suppose" to be very competitive. Will they be? We don't know yet. But they are trying.
You need to constantly work on building a powerhouse team. This sitting back and being "patient" is a b******t loser mentality.
There is so much turnover every year and injuries, that can not be planned for.
There were pieces the 49ers could have added (don't give me the same b******t response.. WHO?) there were pieces to be added. And we didn't add some pieces, and yet some justify it by saying to hold onto the money. Why?
We should have Filled more holes. Make the team better.
The rams are filling holes. No one knows yet if it will work out or not. But they are at least trying to fill some holes. I commend them for that.
