We extended Jimmy to a lucrative contract, signed a top 5 starting center, signed the perfect RB fit for Shanny's offense, and signed a future HOF cornerback. And it's still only March.

Where exactly is this narrative that Lynch and Shanahan are "sitting on their hands" coming from?

I think it come down to the rams are getting a stadium next year and their owner is rich.
Can't really make an assessment on what the Niners are doing until the draft but, it looks like Lynch is making slow and deliberate moves (remember he and Shanny have 6 year contracts) to get back to prominence. I'm with it (Niners in NFCC game THIS year, not hardly) because it means not only is this an accession to the top but, to stay on top. My concern with Suh is that he is a dirty player and when JG starts to rip his team apart, Suh will take it upon himself to try and stop him with a cheap shot.

We signed our QB to a massive deal. Extended Goodwin, Coyle, Marsh and Gilliam.

Gave huge deals to Richburg and McKinnon and added two more solid players in Cooper and Attaochu.

We still have the 9th, 59th, 70th and 74th picks. All of which could play important roles. We have Josh Garnett, Arik Armstead and Jimmy Ward coming back all of whom will be solid depth at the very least and Garcon will be healthy. And we have the best QB in the division who will have a full off-season and and full playbook.

The Rams traded for 2 headaches and signed another and they may have alienated their best defensive player along the way. They traded away valuable picks and their best LB.

I think our off-season was much more productive than theirs especially for the future.

1.) Extended Goodwin, Coyle, Marsh and Gilliam? Those dudes, with the exception of Goodwin, are depth players. Goodwin is a great deep threat but isn't a factor in the redzone. He's a one-dimensional speedster.

2.) Love the Richburg and McKinnon signings. Cooper is a bust and Attaochu can't stay fit enough to play

3.) Garnett War and Armstead suck.

4.) Wilson is the best QB in the division until proven otherwise

5.) Headcases? Based off of what exactly? Are the criminals? One thing is for sure: they are all-pro bonafide studs. Besides, we've got our own wife-beating pothead headache that we wasted a 1st round pick on.

6.) Alienating their best defensive player is nonsense and pure speculation with nothing to support that claim.

5.) Our off-season was not more productive than their's no matter which way you spin it.

They got 2 stud CBs, a stud 5x Pro Bowler DT, extended Robey-Coleman, signed additional CB depth in Shields. They're lacking on the offensive side of the ball, but they can also make up for that during the draft.

We can downplay their offseason all we want but they downright clowned on the Niners in FA. They did have a head start as it seems they've been rebuilding for some time, but they will be taking the division for the next 2 years guaranteed.

While I am a very pessimistic person on this board, I have to say a few things:

The Rams are ready to compete now. Their window starts now. The 49ers are probably two years away from being in the Rams' shoes. I would say that the 2016 Rams are going to be the 2018 49ers. It took the Rams years upon years to accumulate their talent and they were very aggressive during the FA period. I don't think it would be in the 49ers best interest to be aggressive this year. They have to strike while the iron is hot, and right now, their iron is lukewarm....at best. However, I wish that this team would have been more aggressive addressing their o line issue.

2. The Rams are edging towards their salary cap max and they are trading away picks...which is fine for them, but would be foolish on the 49ers. The 49ers need to still build a complete defense. They have some good pieces: colpert, Buckner, Foster, etc...but they are probably 2 drafts away from collecting elite talent on that side of the ball. While I respect the Rams, I do not fear them. I would give them the division for this year and possibly in 2019, but the 49ers should sit pretty come 2020, if they play their cards right.

Not directed at you pdizo916, but these overused terms:
We are Building the team the right way.
We are 2 years away yet.
Wtf
The nfl changes constantly. The rams could go to the Sb this year. Or not. If they do well in 2018, they could restructure and rework contracts. Lose some pieces, gain some pieces. Just like the pats, Steelers, and other teams do. Sometimes it works longer, sometimes it doesn't, look at the 49ers short run or the Seahawks. A couple of different moves and they would still be the top team to knock off.
The falcons seem to have pretty consistent success, so does that mean they are doing it the right way? Or the panthers? How about the chiefs? Philly just did it by being active in FA last year. It worked out. Now they are losing pieces and adding pieces and are still looked at as contenders. Are they in cap hell now? Or the Vikings? Huge players in FA and the Jags were huge players in FA Also..

Big surprise I know, but all of those teams are fielding a team for 2018 and guess what, they All are "suppose" to be very competitive. Will they be? We don't know yet. But they are trying.

You need to constantly work on building a powerhouse team. This sitting back and being "patient" is a b******t loser mentality.

There is so much turnover every year and injuries, that can not be planned for.

There were pieces the 49ers could have added (don't give me the same b******t response.. WHO?) there were pieces to be added. And we didn't add some pieces, and yet some justify it by saying to hold onto the money. Why?
We should have Filled more holes. Make the team better.

The rams are filling holes. No one knows yet if it will work out or not. But they are at least trying to fill some holes. I commend them for that.

At least someone can keep it real.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. I'm not putting all of my eggs in the basket of PR dude who has never had GM experience and someone who just finished their firts year as a HC. I'm sorry, I just can't. I still think they're the right guys for the job, but I can't trust everything they're doing.

Well to be honest with ourselves. We signed a corner coming off an Achilles injury. We had the money to sign a CB or two for depth. We didn't.
Oh yea, I know, they ain't 6' 1" with a 36" reach so they ain't fitting our "scheme"! Lol ok!!
If that's what we need to do to fill a roster, make sure everyone is right "prototypical" size, we are f**ked!!

Might as well go back to balkkes methods.. huge wingspan and make sure the draft picks are told they may need to change positions 2-3 times till we figure it out. Cause we be rebuilding!

I don't believe talib or peters or suh or a few other players they signed are coming off a major injury or, better yet, those players they signed don't miss games. Our roster is filled with people, the same people on IR.
Yet lynch picks up Wards 5th year.

Major blunder and talk about wasting cap space.

JFG49ers, sit down for a minute or 60 and think about what the Rams just did. What you have seen is the knee jerk reaction to Jimmy G being on our team, which should tell you that he is definitely the real deal. They have signed problem children to their team in an effort to counteract what we have and to "win". And pay close attention to Suh and the reaction of the Rams fans when he starts to cheap shot and cost his team games and starts to accumulate suspensions. Also, those two DB's aren't choir boys either (ask Crabby). Sometimes, Dog, you just got to watch things play out.

Sherman didn't miss a single game until last season...

And it's March. Calm down.

I think the Rams will win 12 games next season but if this all blows up in their face I wouldn't be surprised at all. The 2011 Eagles were Super Bowl favorites and ended up starting 4-8...
This has the smell of the eagles dream team. Hope it turns out the same

That quote is wrong. If I take no shots in a game, I am 0/0. I have missed no shots.

In closing, same ol sorry ass rams!

Remember that eagles dream team? That worked out well.
These guys are one tough loss away from imploding. Your really gunna put talib, suh, and Peters on the same team and expect it to be cohesive and smooth? The team will either win 12 games or implode midway through the season and go like 8-8 or 9-
7.
