He's about to start his 4th season.

Close call, almost lost a whole year there.

Lol, thanks, still seems like not that long ago.

It feels longer cause he was the only Baalke 1st rounder that produced right away. (Not including McDrunky's board that he got to draft off of)

People acting like extending Buckner is just a matter of Lynch deciding to do it.

Most are forgetting... it may not be beneficial for Buckner to do a deal right now.

Niners hold all the cards right now. Buckner may want to wait, put a 15 sack season on tape, not wait for people to drop out of the Pro Bowl to make it, and then cash in.

The ONLY reason Buckner would sign a deal now is to protect against injury.

This...his camp has a motive too. But we have control of him for 3-4 more years and the IDL market is set about as high as it's going to get. Somewhere down the road, he'll get $18-20M. No biggie.

Most guys making $18-20 million are the ones who've already won a DPOY. Not sure Buck has that in him.

Just look at the money Frank Clark got. He didn't win DPOY. Look at the other players and that they got. Money is just going up and Buckner is worth more than Frank Clark.
I would like to think most everyone is in consensus that the Cheifs overpaid for Clark. I hope we don't go that route.

Different positions. He'll be slotted with the top tier of DT's; not edge rushers.

Kawaan Short and Geno Atkins are currently at 16 APY and Fletcher Cox is at 17, so 18-20 APY is about right.

But Chase Winovich will be at 2.5 mil per or less

Ian Rapoport‏t @RapSheet

The #49ers and star DL DeForest Buckner have had contract negotations for a long-term deal but are far apart, source said. Agent Chafie Fields talked with SF brass in the last few days, but there is no deal in sight. They picked up his option last week and is a priority for them.

Good.
Nothing new there...makes no sense for him to sign a deal right now. I wish SF would extend him now to get that value down the road.

I believe Buck has the same agent at Mack as well, he's gonna want bank.
He probably wants more than Donald.

Nobody knows what Buckner is asking for, nor do we know what the Niners are offering. But it's not hard to imagine Buckner wanting to be paid with a top 3 contract. It's also not hard to imagine the Niners refusing to give up their remaining FOUR YEARS of team control.

So, yeah, they should be far apart. Whatever gap there is will narrow as Buckner eats up his controllable years AND the Niners have more data to prove what trajectory he is on.

The smart way to play this out would be to keep him for his contract plus franchise years and then let him walk. Interior players get worn down over the years.
They are far apart is not relevant right now. At a minimum they have 2 more years to get a LTD done. Let's all check back in another year and see what's happening.
