I predict half that — maybe even one or two under.

I'm going with 10

I say 12

Got 12 last year with Marsh and Solly on the edges. You guys don't think he'll get more with Ford and Bosa forcing QBs to step up right into him?

Him costing more in the future is a non issue. Give us that problem. He needs to prove it.

What you don't think teams look at the cost of a player now vs 2/3 yrs from now? Philly is one of the best run organizations and do that all the time. They're always signing dudes early.

For sure it's an issue, especially when your team is full of young players.

The Niners have 4 years of control -- of which each year can be accurately projected. Moreover, they have two remaining years of control that, individually, are likely considered "bargains" compared to what his new contract will bring in on an annual basis.

That said -- it makes no financial sense to overwrite the immediate bargain years with a contract that MAYBE gets you 1-2 more years of control than what you have now.

A new 5-year deal only gives the Niners one extra year of control over what they have now. When you look at the totality of their financial investment in Buckner over the next four years (which, of course, includes two tags) it will be much cheaper than just handing him a top-level contract and literally just giving up your financial flexibility in 2019 and 2020.

He may get an extension soon. I would be very surprised if the Niners give up the team friendly portion of their control for 1 or 2 extra years -- of which -- Buckner may never see the end of anyways.

I believe in the next offseason Kittle is the priority since they don't have the luxury of a 5th year option. Once he's done, they can easily tag Buckner until he earns more leverage.

IF Bucko gets 20, does that mean Solo-Bosa-Ford would be??

Schrager is the biggest 9er homer on the planet.

NOTHING's wrong with that... I fully believe that I am the biggest home in the planet when it comes to SF 49ERS.. it's just that I see more reality.

Nah, only cause Ford and Bosa will be taking a bunch of those sacks away from Buckner

He had a dozen last year with no credible PR threat next to him. 20 sounds high, but I would not be shocked if he approached that. Buckner is poised for a monster year imo.
Still waiting for this man to show up in the top 100. I'm going to be furious if he doesn't

totally disagree with that approach (for this example).

They can take that high end guaranteed cash that comes with tagging a player (that has no LT benefit attached to it) and apply it to a long-term contract....They can tag Kittle just as well (and at a cheaper cost) IMO they will more than likely get both signed sooner than later.

again you see teams like Philly take this approach and it's worked out just fine.

you and I will agree to disagree on this one

I don't think he's going to be on the top 100 list. Our only player is likely going to be Kittle.

Pretty screwed if he's not there. Dude was top 8 in the league in tackles for loss and had the second-most sacks from the DT position.

No doubt he belongs on the list, but it is a list voted on by the players and a player on a 4-12 team isn't going to get as much exposure.

Will be interesting to see where he stacks up with the other TE's like Kelce and Ertz

Geno Atkins just got a spot.

Zero reason to exclude Buckner unless there's an agenda.
