DeForest Buckner Traded to the Colts

the other part of this is that Buck is out of the conference. Houston send Hopkins to the NFC West so the Niners send Buck to Indy. Not a great day for Houston.
.....And you could say that Houston lost their best player on offence for cap reasons and are replacing him with Stills. That is a much bigger drop off for Houston than keeping Armstead over Buck.

21 MILLION?!? GOOD GOD. No wonder we traded him. Absolutely LOVE Buckner. He's an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler, but there's no way we could afford 21 million and keep the majority of the others. WOW!!
Isn't that like JG/QB numbers? I agree, I just don't think that was feasible.
I think it was feasible. Ford would been a casualty to make it happen though. I guess they didn't want to do it.
we saw how the dline looked when Ford was out, plus getting rid of Ford then having to pay 21 mil to Buckner will still f**k us over eventually. It was just too much money in the long run, what happens when its Bosa's time? S**t we can even try for Joey Bosa if LA becomes stupid

If we can start looking at deals from a big-picture view, the 49ers picked DeForest Buckner in the first round (7th), got four years of strong production out of him, and flipped him for a first-round pick (13th).

That's excellent long-term business
And you go about replacing his production how?

After the initial disapointment, this starts to make a ton of sense. Hate to see Buckner go but can't keep everyone. At least get a first for him before we can't afford to keep him

Now with a team building lens in I would say Buck for $21mil per is similar value to AA at $17.
AA is probably the better run defender, Buck gives more splash plays.
For me the big kicker is 13 overall. If we do this thing right we won't be picking that high for years, makes this a good trade.

The quality of our D-Line has dropped dramatically.
The durability of the line has plummeted. Does anyone genuinely expect to see Ford and AA out there for 17 (yes, 17) games next season?
I don't think it's just about next year though. We still have DJ Jones, Taylor and Ronald Blair, but either way we werent keeping this line together and this gave us a mid first which we can flip into a great player. It's one of those moves that great teams trying to stay great have to make. Tough decisions.
Their durability is questionable, too.
Even with their rotational nature, we missed each and every one of them last year.
That's true. Injuries suck and they are all coming off injuries. But even with that it was gonna be impossible to keep the line together and since it was where we had the most talent I can see why they made the move. We're gonna have to count on the rotational guys to step up.

probably was Seattle's GM while trying to hold back his laughter.
the wheel and deal... they always look good prior to the draft, more picks to play with.. until you end up with a Solomon and a Foster??
NO??
Speaking of Solomon, is he now a SHOE in for Bucko's spot ?? or will it be JULIAN TAYLOR ???

Didn't Arik get 17? Defo is worth 25mil if AA is work 17.

Personally I like Buckner much more than Armstead, but obviously the 49ers thought differently.
