He got an extension for getting us to the SB as he should. But look no further than Baalke how quickly that can fade.

His own ego was his downfall. Remains to be seen with Lynch. Thus far he has no problem deferring to the head coach and letting his right hand man take on a more active role in personnel.

It doesnt. The cap isnt real.

Lynch doesn't have the same power Baalke did. Everything runs through KS.

?? Lynch is going to see all of that money. He doesn't care about people loving Buckner.
The idea that Lynch may have some price to pay is ridiculous. The reality is he didn't want Buckner at that price. He used the cap as a PR excuse and he moved him. Lynch liked Buckner, but didn't love him. It's over.
The salary cap is only an excuse for players the GM isn't in love with.

Tell that to the Bears who are speculated to have to let Kyle Fuller or Allen Robinson go and have made zero significant moves.
Or to the Rams, or the Seahawks.
We think it's a myth because if KC, they still don't have a center, RG, RT, Sorenson, Breeland, Anthony Sherman, Sammy Watkins and their RB's, and just about all their backup OL.

I just think the team overvalued AA and just made a simple mistake. You can't tie up so much money in the DL, which I get.
Lets say you want to build a great all around team, while having a high paid QB, here would be a estimated breakdown with the cap being set a 220 mil (2022)
40 mil - QB
10 mil - RB (starter 8 mil / backups 2 mil)
35 mil - WRs (#1 20 mil / #2 10 mil / #3-5 5mil)
15 mil - TEs/FB
50 mil - OL (20 mil LT / 12-15 mil RT / 7-10 mil C / G 2-5 mil each)
50 mil - DL (20 mil #1 ER / 20 mil #1 DT / 10 mil DT/DE #2 and backups)
25 mil - LBs (12-15 mil #1 / MLB 7-10 mil #2 LB / 3-4 mil for #3-4 backups)
40 mil DBs ( 15 mil #1 / CB 7-10 #2 / 5 mil Slot CB / FS-SS 10-15 mil)
This comes out to about 265 mil.
So you are about 40 mil over the cap. With doing some back loading and managing the contracts right and knowing when to release a player or not to, it's possible. But something still gonna have to give. Maybe you go cheap at RB and LBs, or DBs. But the money has to be spread out evenly across all positions. You cant have 4 OL making 10-20 mil a year and 3 DL making 15-20 mil a year. That's half your cap...
Point is, either AA or Buckner had to go. We had Ford so that it made impossible to keep 3 guys making that much (***50 mil is in our DL currently). But the answer should've been AA and it's obvious that we made a mistake with it.
You knew that with Buckner you had a great DL combo with Bosa. There would be no need to draft a player like Kinlaw. Now you are playing a game where you hope Kinlaw pans out, and you hope that AA plays well, so you can trade him in 2 years. Bc there's no way we can afford Bosa making 20 mil, AA making 17 mil, and Kinlaw 15-20 mil if he pans out. Somebody now has to go again. TE is locked, WRs you want to keep Deebo and BA if they look great. OL you don't want to f**k with. LB is gonna be expensive with Warner/Greenlaw and then your only choice is make your secondary cheap...
The only way this works out if Kinlaw turns into the same player that Buck was, and if he does, hopefully we don't make the mistake of trading him. The DL then should be built around Kinlaw/Bosa and the other DT/DE can be cheaper, and it will still be a great DL. But we never had to do this in the first place...FO has made some solid moves, this one was a head scratcher though.

I don't think most here pay any attention. There is a whole NFL out there where teams were gutting rosters. Philly is terrible and they were dumping guys left and right.

Ouch... are we the bad guys?
Ouch... are we the bad guys?
"I was hoping the 49ers would at least meet me in the middle," Buckner told The Athletic in November. "I definitely didn't expect them to trade me. I poured my heart and soul into that organization … to go from 2-14 my first year to build a culture and get to a Super Bowl?
"You just don't expect to be traded."

Ei, can't blame BUCKO... and I'm pretty sure the guys here that saw him as a SUPERSTAR hatin on KS & JL now but won't admit it.. I think the fact he was
traded tells you that both SHANNY and KYLE agreed and believed that AA is as good as IF not better while cheaper..
Not that I saw him as SUPERSTAR when he was here, but no doubt our DL would be better with him here tho KINLAW's jury still out... the only way we can say
that it was a good trade is if he can become better than BUCKO..
