DeForest Buckner Traded to the Colts

Still should have signed Buck instead of Armstead.
The Warner deal just makes me think how don't you keep someone who is durable and a leader. Buck and Warner exemplify that.

Buck was my guy too. I wish he would have taken a home town discount. Oh well.

Buckner didn't play for the Steelers

yea no s**t. Home town discount being the 49ers.

Would you rather have Kinlaw+AA or Buckner+3rd round pick in 2020.

I rather have Buck and that 3rd rounder the niners could have gotten by trading AA.

Did anyone want AA? We got a 1st for DeFo. Even before drafting Kinlaw, that's a solid deal.

We traded a 26 year old all-pro pass rushing IDL entering his prime years, never misses games, plays a ton of snaps, is a high character guy and a leader in the locker room. And we're trying to win a SB now. "Solid" is pushing it. The Bosa injury last year sort of made contention a moot point, but if we had kept Buck, the Buckner/Bosa combo basically guarantees a top 5 defensive line for the next 5 years. Now it's Bosa and a bunch of question marks.

Yup. You keep Buckner, you're set at DL for a long time. You plug in players around those 2 and you have a solid DL every year.

You guys realize this team can't continue setting the market for players. You resign Buckner then having Kittle, Williams and Warner with Bosa coming up would be extremely difficult even with Jimmy gone. I would've loved to keep Buckner but trading him and getting his replacement and working him to be his replacement for much cheaper was the way to go. If Kinlaw hits his upside this will be all forgiven with his potential upside and talent.

If we didn't pay AA 4 mill less I would agree with you. But we gave AA a big contract.

I'm not willing to call AA a stupid signing when he's forced to play DE due to injury. If he sucks at DT where he belongs and got 10 sacks in 19' then I'll complain. Lets see how he does with Bosa back and god willing Ford. Bosa, AA, Kinlaw and Ford in pass rushing downs would be nice.

And that's the thing. Buckner would not have played that poorly with Bosa out. AA is codependent of others players around him to be good, at least that's the only thing we've seen so far.

The difference between their salaries was 4 million last year? We can't use APY. I doubt AA plays out his contract. I can see one or two more years.
Kinlaw better blow up this year, and that'll make the Buckner trade more palatable. But I hated the move then and nothing has occured to change my mind. The difference in salary between AA and Buck is chump change and the difference in their ability is vast. The 49ers kept the wrong guy.

Nah, also got Aiyuk as a result of the trade. Who is likely to be more impactful than everybody mentioned in your post.

But we didnt need his replacement lol. And it did nothing to help us get BA. I'm not sure how you're coming to that conclusion seeing how we got him with OUR 1st round pick.
