Trading Buckner was a huge mistake

He'd be pretty darn good if he could just learn to get off the damn ball

way too early to say that.

I guess I'll push back a little.

Has there been that big of a drop off since he's been gone? As far as sack #s, yes, but overall defense? Run defense?

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/sfo/2021.htm [Compare to the 2020 and 2019 defense]

Is our defense the reason we're losing games?

In no way am I trying to discredit Buckner as a player. That link is what the numbers say.
Sorry but I wasn't going to pay Buckner what he got in Indy, would've I wanted him back yes but not for that price. You have to be close to Donald production and disruption to warrant that contract

Niner Talk turned him into a legend when he was always just a very good player.

38 sacks in his first 5 years. #27 ranked player in the NFL in 2021. 1st team all pro last season.

Best part...AA's cap hit is actually higher over the next 3 seasons.

and it won't be higher once they use that 6th "ghost" year part of his contract. They will restructure AA's deal and that will drop his cap hit.

Again Buck wanted his cash upfront, with less yrs and should get that he's better. SF needs that money to resign other guys and they got compensation for Buck, AA was a FA and couldn't be traded (unless he was tagged).

You should got listen to INDY fans right now, saying they should trade Buck for a CB lol. Fans gonna fan. We miss Buck and football is a business end of the day

Exactly. Like I said. Very good player, but Niner Talk hyped this dude up way too much. He will have a long productive career and will be forgotten like everybody else when it's time to hang it up.

yeah it is. Evaluating a young player like Kinlaw takes multiple years. Plus Keeping Buck would have meant losing AA for nothing. They bet on AA + Kinlaw being more productive than just having Buck, and time will tell who was right.

no..its not. Armstead is hot garbage at best and kinlaw has jacked up knees

I'll say it again, it's not that Armstead is trash... he's solid. But he ended up with Superstar money. We expected splash plays out of him and we very rarely get it.

Well so far, Kinlaw hasn't worked out. Buckner made an impression right away and stayed healthy.

Buckner over AA any day of the week since day 1.
