At the start of this draft we all knew we needed starters well now we have tWo. Let us see how the rest of the drAft works out. But if we can land at least two more starters preferably three well then this is a success with B but if we can land at least two more starters preferably three well then this is a successful draft

If this guy comes in day one starter that be genius. People were big on Martin and Thomas right.

People saying "he would have been there in the 2nd round." How the heck do they know? (They don't)
The 49ers wanted him, thought he might get picked before #37 and got him. Good for them.

Yeup. Plus I like couple other linebackers too. So we will have an opportunity to fill that spot next to Bowman.

Lol nope. He went to USC.
Lol yep. He went to stanford.
Jonathan Martin, whom I'm pretty sure BadgerHawk is referring to, went to Stanford.
Marcus Martin went to USC, and I think that is who shmuck is thinking of.
I can also help with the whole "Pam, Pan" thing if you want.
Lol that is definitely it.

I don't see how any Niner fans shouldn't love that, but some just won't.
I don't love it, but don't hate it. Was really high on the Buckner pick, but we are such a talent strapped team and can't afford to reach on a player like Garnett at arguably one of the bottom 2 impact positions in football (excluding ST).... between what we did in FA and the fact that we don't pick again until round 3 it's pretty pathetic how few "impact" skill players we have. No better than CLE in that area but atleast they have a ton of draft capital.

How can people say this guy isn't first round talent?
That was an awesome trade by Baalke, we got two starters today.
That Garnett may end up to be the best offensive lineman in this draft.

Not hard to figure out.
Filled a definite need by having some balls and moving up to get what we needed.
So far, 2 starters

disagree - I can totally see both Trent and Chip being on board with these picks. Compare it with Iupati and Armstead in past drafts. Shows might be little more then lip service that they are on same page.

Looks like both us and SEA had Garnett as the higher rated player

Everyone blasted the Cowboys for taking Zak Martin so high a few years ago. He's one of the best in the game. I am thrilled with this pick. Mostly because i always wanted Kaep to stay an compete. Very happy our oline was once a thing of great pride. It will be again
This move along with Paxton Lynch in Denver probably assured Kaep stays!!
yes it does and maybe a blessing in disguise as far as Kap goes.
Could be a great wake-up call for him.

I don't mind the pick, but I was surprised we moved up to get him. Then again it depends what you are looking for in an OL, your scheme, and whether you think others might go after him. Whitehair is rated higher and he is faster as far as 40 time, but Garnett has his pluses. He is stronger than Whitehair (he benched twice as much Whitehair), has longer arms (we know that is a key that a talent evaluator look for), and weighs more (20lbs by some accounts). So they are looking for someone who won't get pushed around. His negative maybe that he doesn't seem athletic. He also seems nasty where as Whitehair seems more finnese. If it makes any difference, Garnett did win the Outland Trophy and received many All American honors.
Something to consider-the seahawks took IFEDI (who is similar to Garnett physically, but with longer arms) in the first and there were a lot of teams in the second round in front of them that could have taken an OG, so they did not want to miss out. Being in the backyard, the 49ers got to see Garnett a lot. One of the complaints that Kaep supposedly had was that in his contract, he wanted the money he supposedly saved them to be used to resign players like Iupati. This may make Kaep change his thoughts about leaving, although he will need to mend the fences with the players.
Starting in the trenches. Wonder where they go next with 3rd and 4th? Hope they trade a fifth and sixth to get back a forth round pick.
