I was listening to the move the sticks podcast with Daniel Jeremiah. Daniel is an APPALACHIAN ST. alum who said he talked to one of the coaches there and they mentioned that he should become an ILB in the NFL if he cuts a bit of weight.

I think this is an intriguing idea. At his pro day, he did show off some coverage ability and his quickness could really help in the run game. However, that seems like a big transition not sure if he could get it done. His combine 40 was really slow as well but his pro day 40 puts him at 4.85 which is only a little slow.

4.85 at 276 is still pretty darn athletic. He only posted a low time at the combine due to a quad pull in the 40. I think he's best suited to play DE in the 280s. But if they really wanted him to be a 3-4 OLB or ILB, it's obviously not impossible for him to do that if he dropped about 15 pounds. At 265, I'd expect him to be a 4.7 guy.
I could have sworn I read that he didn't really have any pass rush moves at OLB other then a bullrush. I don't want to get too cute with the pick. No more tank Carradine experiments. Let the guy play d line.

He is not going to OLB, he is currently at 281, unlike tank, he is just 9 pounds away from 290, he has a better chance at DE. Tank was 272-275 out of college for him 20+ pounds was a lot. Why need so many DE? Because Arik and Buck will kick inside on passing downs. 3-4 on passing downs for the niners is such misnomer.

For now, I don't think he's going to be an OLB either. I'm tired of TJE. Dial is solid against the run, but doesn't offer much pass rush at DE. That's where a rotation of guys like AA/DeFo/Blair comes in. They are all very strong, athletic guys that flash pass-rush capability when that is their job on the play. Obviously no matter how good a player is, they are NOT going to play every snap in the game. Even Justin Smith didn't. Although he wouldn't miss more than a few, who knows if our players will have that kind of endurance. That kind of ability doesn't grow on trees.

You're right on the bullrush comment, I think it was said when he was drafted on NFL network

Probably already posted, but for those wanting to see another video showcasing the kid's athleticism.
just watched his interview and this kid is very well spoken and I love hes willing to play any position the coaches choose..i think hes going to be a steal..

Great pick, I'm glad he's with us!!!

"I wore (number) 49 in college," Blair said. "My phone number has 49 (in it). My dad's favorite team is the 49ers. It must have just been destiny. I'm grateful to land here."
If he played DE in college, then let him play DE here. But knowing the stupid ass 49ers, they're going to convert him to CB or something.....

Don't know where else they throw him in besides the line?

We get to thank the Charger's for taking Bosa and for Blaire.

Plus the Belldozer too. Chargers got Gordon and Bosa. We got AA, Buckner, Bell, and Blair. Not bad for Baalke.

He can play LB at 265-275. Steelers had ILBs at 275 and at 225.

but those LBs are real LBs.. they weren't 265 to 275 DEs.. this is exactly why Tank is having trouble with our defense, he's a natural E and we're trying to convert him to an OLB..

Look at what happened with our then END (Andre Carter) when Nolan tried to turn him into an OLB.. it ain't happenin.. Lemon-man alone is having trouble being an OLB because he was a DE at Auburn.
