4.85 at 276 is still pretty darn athletic. He only posted a low time at the combine due to a quad pull in the 40. I think he's best suited to play DE in the 280s. But if they really wanted him to be a 3-4 OLB or ILB, it's obviously not impossible for him to do that if he dropped about 15 pounds. At 265, I'd expect him to be a 4.7 guy.
He is not going to OLB, he is currently at 281, unlike tank, he is just 9 pounds away from 290, he has a better chance at DE. Tank was 272-275 out of college for him 20+ pounds was a lot. Why need so many DE? Because Arik and Buck will kick inside on passing downs. 3-4 on passing downs for the niners is such misnomer.
For now, I don't think he's going to be an OLB either. I'm tired of TJE. Dial is solid against the run, but doesn't offer much pass rush at DE. That's where a rotation of guys like AA/DeFo/Blair comes in. They are all very strong, athletic guys that flash pass-rush capability when that is their job on the play. Obviously no matter how good a player is, they are NOT going to play every snap in the game. Even Justin Smith didn't. Although he wouldn't miss more than a few, who knows if our players will have that kind of endurance. That kind of ability doesn't grow on trees.
