DE Ronald Blair is 6'2 284, and was named Sun Belt defensive player of the year in 2015.
I never heard of him, but when we selected him, i felt good about this one. I hated that robinson pick.

I'm good with this, I think it will likely mean the end of TJE and probably Rush.

.

might be my favorite pick of this draft so far!

Ronald Blair: 6-2, 284, 34-inch arms, 51 games, 21 sacks, 53.5 tackles for loss. #49ers

Sounds like a beast

Looks like he can get into the backfield. Bring the chaos.

As another poster pointed out, Chip Kelly's high-tempo offense will mean our defense will need depth.

Hence, the premium on DBs and Defensive lineman. We need fresh bodies for this system to succeed!
we have so much depth at the DL.. unless he loses weight and becomes pass rusher..

A rotational dlinemen. But I'm ok, because good rotational players are going to be important in chip's tenure.
This is the first good selection Baalke has made since Friday.

But they really dont. Williams and Dorsey are both injury prone and on short term deals. TJE is meh. Beyond that you have Purcell who is a backup and then you have Armstead, Buckner and Dial who are the likely starters. The backups will be playing a lot more snaps.

Where is this depth you speak of?

Don't be shocked if they go back to the Oregon well in the 7th and take their NT Balducci too.

He can play DE in a 3-4 and move inside in other packages. Has a motor, is strong and instinctive. He's just slow. Who cares about speed on the dline when your intellect and instincts have you where you need to be already?

Looks like a pretty good pick to me. Even if it's just as a rotational guy.
A defensive player that rocked #49 in college then was later drafted by the 49ers?

Worked out pretty well the last time that happened

"He might look like a drunken fool chasing a dollar on a string, but in that moment, the only thing on his mind is getting to the quarterback, and he's not the type of guy that's going to give up on a play."

Now that's a quote I can get behind. I like the pick.

Was just getting ready to say this. Until we find out how Kelly's defense will be in SF, IMO we can't have enough DLs and DBs.
I had him rated as a 1st round talent. Great selection.

Hes 280, maybe they're gonna have him slim down to 265 and edge rush from the olb spot.in a 3-4 one of the lbs comes up to the line most of the time anyway
