Just because ELI is in down position, this doesn't make it a 4-3..
In fact, one would read this as 5 - 2 even before reading it as a 4-3..
When you talk about the 4-3 defense, you talk about FOUR DL with 3 LBS lining up behind them..
It's called a 4-3 under. This is a common 4-3 front. Defo confirmed today that O'Neil's scheme is predominantly a one gap scheme.
you may wanna learn this.. or maybe, write this on your board, anywhere on the wall about 100x..
when there are 3 DL listed on the field, with 4 LBs supporting them, it is called a 3-4 scheme!!
that "4-3 under" you're talkin about is just a freakin formation that they line up.. it's just like the old 46D of the Bears.. you see everyone lining up on scrimmage, but bottom line, they have the 4 DL and 3 LBs (Wilbur; Mike; Otis)..
