He did shave off time from his combine 40, but the thing is, his combine 40 was only 5.15 because he pulled a quad on the run. I'd certainly be interested in seeing what he could do at say 268 lbs. The power and arm length are remarkable. This kid I think will help us whichever way we use him.
Good pick.

he really carries his 280lbs well..... he sure doesn't look that heavy in those highlight videos.

If they can get him to 270, great... but I wouldn't mind seeing stay at his size at OLB, if he can still move like in those highlights.

There's really no need for him to stay that big if he's going to be an OLB. I always prefer players to cut weight if they can for the spot they play. If he got down to 250-260, he'd be even quicker.
Brooks' replacement. Harold and Tank compete for backup behind Lynch.

They need to give Tank a contract extension right now. Depth on defense is going to be huge on a Chip-Kelly team. And his only real weakness was stopping the run in the 5-technique, for which he's not even suited anyway. He's a great fit as a versatile, situational pass rusher, and his stock is low right now. Niners have tons of young players and cap room as well, so it makes sense.

#3 OLBs, #3 CBs and #3 DL might practically be starters on a Chip-Kelly defense.
Quality depth? Perhaps
I think that he will stay at DE with Tank at OLB and come in on sub packages. With Dorsey and Williams out til mid season he could get a lot of playing time. I was I,pressed with his highlights.

Blair is a very good pick. 3rd round talent and rated that way by many. Really liking our DE group right now.

LE: Armstead/Blair/TJE
RE: Buckner/Dial

Getting Blair gives us the flexibility and insurance of having Dial able to play NT if Williams or Purcell are hurt or need a breather.

I actually think Blair was mostly on the right side.

RE: Buckner/Blair

Plus Purcell, Dorsey, and the terrible TJE

Well that makes sense.

Can't wait to see this guy on the field
His selection seems a lot like the Tank experiment a few years back. Great pick but round peg in a square whole. Is there a reason why he will succeed in a 3-4 scheme where Tank couldn't at DE?
