IMHO, this case, more so than any I've seen, is a clear example of why I truly feel that these sports leagues need to fall under regular employee/employer relationships and law, that this sorts of 19th century "ownership" should not be allowed.

The NFL has repeatedly said he was being suspended for the "domestic violence" issue and that issue alone. So the other stuff you listed, regardless if true, is completely irrelevant.
True, however, one needs to not put themselves in situations where things can get out of control.
In Elliott's case, he is paying the price of fame. Everyone recognizes him and wants a piece of the action around him. That will inevitably create issues at some point. It may not be fair but it is reality. Hard to tell a young man to stay home but that is his reality now.
You can also look at it from the angle that the NFL is trying to secure Elliot, and stop him from ending up like ray rice. Not because they care about him, but because a star like him brings in ratings and $$$.
