lol

Gets a guy named "meek."

Terrible name for an agent.

To think of all the "Sams" or "Johns" this guy could've chosen...

At the rate these salaries are going the NFL needs to make some changes to the cap. Teams cannot field a team if 1 player eats 20% of cap room. Maybe they can designate one franchise player that does not count against the cap? Just a thought. Because the money is getting really out of control.

Part of me agrees or bring in max contracts like in basketball. But the other part enjoys the salary cap and teams having make sacrifices and how teams can turn around after one good draft.

Maybe, just maybe, the answer according to John Lynch is to build the best team ignoring the qb that you can. Then pick up the best draftee and FAs or whatever and run with them for 4 to 5 years then trade them. And start again at the qb position. Let the Green Bay's spend twenty percent of their cap on one guy. Would it work? Might do. Eventually there has to be a way round the greedy quarterback syndrome.

I agree with this team building process until you land a generational talent at QB like a Mahomes, Allen or Burrow. Don't be like the Giants, Cardinals and Vikings who are paying a bunch of money for QBs who don't elevate your team enough.

This. Plus it's been awhile since a team with a cheap rookie deal qb won and that was Mahomes.
Mahoney is not cheap now!! But he did prove his worth so good for him.

"200 million guaranteed doesn't sound like alot now."

So you think they should pay Lamar 200 guaranteed?
Only 2 teams have handed out guaranteed contracts, the idiot Browns and the Vikings. No other team seems to be interested.

if I'm the Vikings I'd offer Cousins, a first this year and a 2 next year to the Ravens. Ravens get a decent QB in return and do not have to pay what Lamar wants. Vikings get an upgrade at QB and should be willing to give Lamar what he wants.

who says no?

The vikings. They would take an $18m dollar cap hit by making that trade. And their "guaranteed" contracts have been short starter money contracts. It was a 3 year deal, then a 2 year deal, then 1 year extension, It also had roster qualifiers, not fully guaranteed, effectively guaranteed.

Also kirk cousins might say no. If the Ravens roster is as bad as lamar fans make it out to be, why would he go there?

Lol. "It doesn't all have to be guaranteed, just at least $231M."

He is 1000% in the right imo. He's a better asset than Mr Massage.. he means more to a franchise, has more value. Contracts are relative to other contracts since the dawn of time. Not sure why a club won't just do it, not like you are gonna go half way in on Lamar, go all the way or start Heinicke / Ridder week 1, those are your options.

The Browns giving a stupid contract that the rest of the league laughed at doesn't make it the standard.

"We should do exactly what the Browns did" said no smart GM ever.

I don't know why Lamar doesn't ask for $800 million guaranteed. If you're going to demand a contract that no one will give you, might as well go all the way ridiculous.

A bargaining point is a bargaining point. Use whatever leverage you have because you'll never sign another NFL contract @ this age again.

Well I mean look at deals.. I remember JG $137m was a then NFL record.. now it's kinda chump change... Jones got $160m for 4. JG was $137 for 5. Rodgers is getting $150m for 3. Deals only go up, over time. Kyler $230m for 5. Russ $245m for 5. Why not Lamar $260m for 5 and gtd $231? Let's get real $800m is silly, maybe in 20 years tho

Lamar should be > Russ or Watson, imo. He won MVP on the rook deal, they didn't.
Imo by the end of the Lamar deal, QBs will be making 60m-80m annual and he will be at $52m or so annual

inflation kicking hard folks

Russ won a super bowl, while leading them to another the next season, on his rookie contract. He also started 160 straight games starting from his first career game.
He also has a winning playoff record, and a 2-1 td-int ratio in the playoffs.

Now lamar, in his first 5 years he missed more games than Wilson in 11 years. Has performed worse than his previous "full" season. Has a losing playoff record with a 3-5 td-int ratio(4-7 td- TO)

And i think we have established the Browns are f**king stupid, and Watson benefited from a desperate stupid team. And if Lamar can find those circumstances power to him.

Browns will be Browns, but NFL deals are going up.

Looking at the JG $27 mil, you almost have to double it to get to today's top deals, which are around $50m. Not sure if that can continue but if it were to continue, we would see $100m in the future annual. So if you lock Lamar in at $52m.. it will look like a bargain in five+ years if he plays on his current level.

His current level? He's missed double digit games over the past two seasons, in half his games this season he didn't even hit 250 combined yards rushing/passing.

His current level is regression and becoming injury prone.

The difference that having quality representation makes.
