Maybe the ref was thinking of "what to eat for dinner" ... he looks the part too (his clueless face)..

With your RUGBY 7 idea in regards to refs is on point and makes too much sense.

However, if Goodell and the league really want to get their act together, they would. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but we've got to be naive if we don't think some games are (timely) rigged at some degree. Otherwise, they would've fixed the poor officiating problem quite a long time ago.

When betting and tons of $$$ are at stake #CorruptionHappens #GoodellHappens offshore betting and Vegas happens

Oh brother I'm with you,...money talks .... and people are silly if they think some NFL games can't get rigged. Too much money involved, too many part time employees, it's happened consistently at the college level. Vegas has been deep for years. It really is an easy fix to clean up the errors but why hasn't it been done????

Rigged NFL games are like UFO's, we know they're there we just need confirmation!!!

Easiest people to pay off is the refs, what do they make a game, $5,000?

Lol ikr... they could open a few online accounts or have some buddies in their circle place the wagers for them
When a personal foul is called that involves targeting it should be reviewed like they do in college. Too many incidental touches of the face mask and accidental helmet contact. It's darn near impossible to go in for a tackle without your head leading. ( it is at the top of your body) When the opposing player lowers his head it should not be a penalty unless it looks intentional. Head butts are illegal in boxing but they don't penalize accidental head butts. Same should apply in football. I don't like PI the way it is now called. They seem to allow players to hand fight each other on most plays and then decide it's pass interference on crucial plays.

Exactly. So if a ref wants to call it the way he wants to, it's up to him..or he doesn't have to call it. If that ref has a wager (illegal) on that game he's officiating and he has an opportunity to go one way or the other, of course he'll go the route that pays
49ers shouldn't be allowed to lose anymore.
I think it's time the refs suffered some sort of penalty for blown calls. Suspension without pay or something like that. A little incentive to get it right the first time!

Every official is graded on every play and notified of their scores on a weekly basis. Those that score high are rewarded with higher profile games and playoff games. That equals cash.

IIRC, one official was suspended this season. Don't recall who/when.

Whoa there's a PFF for refs too? There should be a PFF for the graders at PFF.

As a possible solution to avoid the type of missed call that occurred in the NFC Championship Game, the NFL is expected to consider a plan that would allow limited coaches' challenges for incorrect judgment calls that also could include a penalty or time run off if the coach is wrong, per a league source.
I have little to no respect left for the NFL. Time after time I see games decided by the NFL refs that just happen to be what the league wants to happen. Jerome Bettis and that hose job for the Steelers,Ray Lewis last ride, getting Paul Allen a super bowl,Brady year after year, and the NFL and the LA market. That call wasn't missed it was just plainly not called on purpose. I'm not watching 1 second of that BS super bowl.

Not my idea or plan...

I heard a radio discussion a few years ago about player safety (and honestly wouldn't be surprised if they eventually go this way with the softening of the NFL), but it was an idea to do away with kickoffs and just start at the 20 since most kicks go out of the endzone anyway. Along with punts being non-returnable and only caught and considered a fair catch or dead ball spotting by the kicking team.

Their theory was that 11 guys converging on a single player was the most dangerous play in the NFL. Other plays have the D-line going after the QB or RB and the LB's going after a TE etc, but the return man alone against 11 is extremely vulnerable

IMO, This would suck and take all of the anticipation and fun out of opening kickoffs, changing of possessions and some of the biggest game changing plays, plus it would put kickers, returners, gunners and most special teams players out of the league. Would be even tougher to justify calling it "foot"ball anymore
I don't like underthrows being rewarded. When a receiver has to come back for the ball, that's on his QB for not hitting him in stride. I hate when a DB is flagged for having a receiver run through him for an underthrow. Even if it's the QBs intent (most times it's not) it's still a cheap ass way to pick up a quick 50 yrds. Impossible for a DB to avoid, because it's the receiver initiating all the contact.
Coaches shouldn't be the ones to correct the work of referees. When a play like what happened in the NFC championship game, it should be on the ref's to get it right. O)n that particular play, there were clear fouls by the defensive player. Pass interference, face guarding, and helmet to helmet hit were obvious to all who were watching the game, except for the back judge. He didn't see anything wrong. But the line judge did. He was about to pull his flag out, when the back judge gave him a hand signal to keep it in his pocket. This is where things went south. If a referee sees what he believes to be a penalty, he NEEDS TO THROW THE FLAG. If another ref disagrees with him, they should huddle up and discuss what they saw. If they can't come to an agreement then maybe the crew chief should get involved in the discussion, maybe HE calls for a review in an effort to GET IT RIGHT. It needs to be on the ref's crew to resolve disagreements between officials. Leave the coaching staff out of it, it's not their job.
Helmet to helmet and spearing .
