Coaches shouldn't be the ones to correct the work of referees. When a play like what happened in the NFC championship game, it should be on the ref's to get it right. O)n that particular play, there were clear fouls by the defensive player. Pass interference, face guarding, and helmet to helmet hit were obvious to all who were watching the game, except for the back judge. He didn't see anything wrong. But the line judge did. He was about to pull his flag out, when the back judge gave him a hand signal to keep it in his pocket. This is where things went south. If a referee sees what he believes to be a penalty, he NEEDS TO THROW THE FLAG. If another ref disagrees with him, they should huddle up and discuss what they saw. If they can't come to an agreement then maybe the crew chief should get involved in the discussion, maybe HE calls for a review in an effort to GET IT RIGHT. It needs to be on the ref's crew to resolve disagreements between officials. Leave the coaching staff out of it, it's not their job.

I agree with the sentiment of this post (aside from calling face guarding a penalty....its not), but this is not based in reality. Refs miss calls. All refs arent watching the same part of the field.

I still stand by my opening statements:

offensive and defensive holding should be only 5 yards.

The first defensive holding penalty on a drive should NOT result in an automatic first down. If it occurs more than once on the same drive, then grant that team a first down.

i dont think faceguarding should be a penalty. I think a defensive player shouldn't have to turn his head to look for the ball, and unless he's physically affecting the receiver's ability to catch the ball, it shouldn't result in a penalty.

Coaches should be able to challenge judgement calls and coaches should be able to challenge within two minutes of each half.

Kickoffs should happen at the 30 yard line. (i know why they moved it to the 35, but for Christ's sake, it's f**king football....)

How many people are going to post that faceguarding is a penalty before they do a little research and realize it isnt?
Stop protecting the QBs excessively. More giant hits across the middle, get rid of helmet to helmet rules. No more defenseless receiver calls.

I heard Charles Haley yesterday and he thinks football today is a joke. He said he couldn't play under the current rules.

Nice...
The rule that says you need a commercial every 5 minutes.
Sky judge is being worked on.
Kicking-off into the endzone on the fly should be penalized at least as severely as kicking-off out of bounds. The touchback kickoff is a wasted, boring play.

They want to eliminate the kick off cause it leads to more injuries. So that's not gonna happen.

The NFL is expected to eliminate all blindside blocks on all plays, NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said Friday.
Current rules prohibit only blindside blocks to the head and neck area.
But the NFL coaches' subcommittee recommended the change.

It's a pipe dream but...Allow coaches to use challenge flags on crucial penalties. I hate when refs botch an important call and coaches can't do anything about it. Too many times it's not a hold, or a PI, or an illegal hit. Brooks' (legal) hit on Brees in the playoffs a few years ago comes to mind.

+1
I know it won't ever happen because it would slow the game down, but give unlimited challenges. But if you lose, you also lose 10 yards.
