I agree with you that Goff's overall college record may not be a fair point of assessment. However, that dude didn't beat a single ranked team. Not one. For all the hype that kid got and to go #1 overall -- you'd think that SOMEWHERE in his college days he would've shown something... ANYTHING. Also, his bowl win came against Air Force. Those dudes are a glorified rec team.
Again, it's not that Goff was a poor prospect. It's that he was a poor #1 overall prospect. If you're taking a kid to be your franchise QB you need to hold him to a higher standard. If Goff was drafted in the 4th round nobody would be calling him a bust. They'd be saying "yeah, his NFL performance so far sounds about right".
The thing with the other #1 overall QBs who panned out is that you at least saw a glimpse of things to come even if they had a s**tty year. Manning had a s**tty rookie year -- but everybody walked away knowing with certainty he was the guy.
We'll see with Goff. Time will tell. But it's not exactly an inspiring start.
