He isnt?

Of course he isn't. Goff is going to start. Everyone knows this.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. You seem to be under the impression he was thinking "here comes a defender...meh it's preseason who cares about this pass let's just stay safe

I'm willing to bet he thinking more along the lines of "here comes a defender...oh f#@%, here comes a defender!"

I think you're out of your mind if you don't think that's EXACTLY what the coaching staff told him. Slide if there's even a 1% chance of getting hit; throw the ball if there's any realistic chance a defender hits you. That's probably what all 32 head coaches tell every, single starting QB in the preseason. They probably don't tell that to backups and people trying to make the 53-man roster.

At this point im questioning whether or not you even watched the play in question

I didn't. Because preseason isn't worth watching. He could've thrown 7 interceptions, and it would matter zero. The '08 Lions went 4-0 in the preseason.

So you're* arguing a play that didn't even watch lol

I'm basing it off the description given of the play, and what I read was he made a bad throw because he was afraid of pressure coming. That's what I'd want a starting QB to do in the preseason.

I don't know why people have to repeat that preseason is 100% meaningless every, friggn' year.

Wins and losses in preseason are irrelevant, sure. Your starting qb throwing up ducks into double coverage is worrisome, even in practice.

Practice is 100,000 times more important than preseason (at least to the starters).

It's not meaningless. That is the only time where QBs can get hit or feel pressure.

It's just preseason but he's playing worse than our rookie 4th rounder....so bust potential is high...

I just hope he's good enough to try for another year and keep McVay out of the Cousins chase...

Don't hold your breath. He hasn't shown me anything that leads me to believe he will have a solid sophomore season. Nothing last year and so far nothing through a few preseason games this year.
He's just like Alex Smith. Will prob suck for 7 years until he gets a good coach.

That INT saids it all about Goff right now. After the play action the receiver was wide open. Overthrown badly into an open DB A rusher came free at him just before he was ready to throw. He looked like he didn't want to get hit, and over threw the ball.

That is EXACTLY what you should do in the preseason. No completion is worth a hit in the preseason.
now throwing INTs is exactly what you should do ?

If it's between making a bad pass and risking a hit in the preseason? He'd be a moron to choose the latter. Preseason matters for nothing; it's not like he's trying to win a starting job.

The point was he didn't avoid anything. He waited till the last moment and got hit anyway. He was trying to make the play, and didn't, and didn't, very poorly.
