Any qb playing against that 13' Seattle defense was gonna look disgustingly bad especially if he's a statueOriginally posted by Fanaticofnfl:Originally posted by okdkid:Is this the biggest QB choke job in Super Bowl history?
Jared Goff deserves most of the blame (although he's young, I get it) but no. Not even close.
2013 Peyton Manning has him beat by a mile.
EDIT: On second thought, I went back and checked Manning's stats from that game and they weren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be. Although he probably benefitted from some second half statpadding, would be my guess.
2015 Cam Newton is a much better candidate.

To be fair, the Denver D was absolutely lethal that year. Tom Brady got absolutely stomped by them in the AFCCG.

i'd say our superbowl was..
3 fade routes really... even if we were robbed by goodell and the zebras... like fade routes, one of the many weaknesses of kap.

We're talking over play....Goff was awful.
reports say Pats would have two defensive play calls and would change it up once Goff lost communication with McVay in his headset. Dude isn't very good

It's top 10 bad, maybe top 5 but It's not even close to worse performance in SB history. Morton threw 4 picks and less than 40 yards in the 70's. Kerry Collins also threw 4 picks vs the Ravens.

The patriots made him play by himself, changed the play once McVay couldn't help him anymore. Similar to the saints plan when the crowd was so loud McVay couldn't help and he struggled bad.
Pretty much Goff is a product of the system and the stacked roster. He himself doesn't make the team that much better.

John Elway had a historically bad Super Bowl against us too. Although you could argue that '89 squad was the best team of all time.

I believe it. Mcvay knew it. You could see it on his face in that stare at the end of the game. He had nothing to work with against that D. 8 punts in a row. Jimmy G would have broken that D down on his own, out of the pocket with that arm.....Goff makes some good throws here and there but not a dynamic playmaker and can't see and manipulate the field/pocket for nothing. The Rams have a ferocious D line but damn, Mcvay has a problem on his hands. Do you stay with Goff and pay him 200m when his contract is up or go somewhere else. Dude needs second play called in after Mcvay sees initial D alignment before that 15 second mark. 3 years in, that's what he's got.Brady played like s**t and Goff couldn't even match that.

Losing Kupp was big for them. Goff completion ratio went down from 69 to 60 in his absence. Great qb's overcome that but he's obviously not that right now.

A big part of that falls on McVay. You can't develop a QB to rely on a crutch because smart defenses will eventually take it away. People got pissed at Harbaugh and Roman for trying to make Kaepernick more of a pocket passer but it is exactly something like this that they were trying to avoid.
McVay needs to stop coddling Goff and let him sink or swim on his own. Right now Goff is in that Alex Smith mode where he quite simply overthinks everything and seems to be trying to do too much but unless he is given some time to shoulder that responsibility, he'll never progress any further.

Yep. He looks like a stronger armed Alex "captain checkdown" Smith.

Goff was bad, but so was Brady. The 2 things that killed the rams was the horrible field position after each kickoff, and the QB sacks on 3rd and x when you are in field goal range. Everyone knows pressure is coming, so why does this constantly happen?
