Goff just doesn't have "it". I knew he was going to play small in the SB

How did Goff handled the blitz and pressures that New England put on him?
That's like what Mullens had to dealt with in every game in the season. He still got the ball out.
In retrospect, I'll take Mullens over Goff against the Pats in the SB. That's how bad it was for Goff

1st overall pick vs. undrafted.
Makes sense.
It is sad that Goff defenders pull a UDFA as a compare. Goff should be absolutely crushing this league right now, given his draft status. He is not. He is a total non factor.
LOL, his stats speak for themselves.

I'd take it.
It helps to look at context with the stats. Do I think Goff is a good QB? Sure. Is he one of the best QBs in football, as good as his stats would leave you to believe? Not really.
His two main issues appear to be a lack of recognition and a general inability to function under pressure. Those are major problems for an NFL QB. When he has a clean pocket, he'll light you up, if you harass him and constantly come after him and he has no spotless clean pocket to throw from, he consistently falls apart.
When teams take away McVay's ability to play puppetmaster, the way New England did and they prevent Goff from having his daddy make all the reads for him, he falls apart.
All in all, Goff is probably a Dak Prescott level QB. Good quality QB but not a guy who will carry you to the SB just on the basis of his ability as a passer.
Wish Shanahan and Lynch could have created some of that context here.

Wish Shanahan and Lynch had the luxury of taking over a roster that had been rebuilding since like 2010.

Your puppet master point is a very good illustration of why Goff struggles with pressure. McVay, by continuing to read the defense and tell Goff what to do on every play, is not allowing Goff to break free of those controlling strings and learn to read the defense on his own.
Just like Pinocchio in the puppet story, until Geppetto the puppet master who badly wanted a real son, was willing to let Pinnocchio be free and experience life on his own, Pinnocchio could never be a real boy. Until McVay requires Goff to get serious about learning to read defenses on his own and learn from his mistakes, he will never live up to his draft status.
I'm not sure Goff can even be a Prescott until he learns to handle pressure better. At least Prescott can scramble and make plays when things go south. Goff just runs around until he is sacked.

Goff has definitely improved, but Todd Gurly definitely made his life easier. At least we know his Kryptonite...1 good O'l Old school hit and take the 15 yard penalty. Dude will throw the football like a hot grenade when he see's a blitz!!! 😂

True, the 49ers are only in year 5 of rebuilding.

But unlike McVay, Geppetto doesn't get fired if he fails to have a son.

Just saw that he had approximately 3 seconds on average before pressure even got there. Ball has to come out.
His issue is that he can't read defenses. He needs McVay to do everything except throw the ball. That's not sustainable. He is going into year 4 now. Youth is not an excuse.

Not mobile. Did he stare off safeties ? i didn't see it. his play faking was pedestrian, forced, like drinking castor oil. unexceptional pocket awareness. Pretty oblivious actually, not unlike cj. just gets the ball out faster than cj. Strong arm but didn't show a lot of touch in the game. He's in a system that works for him. that's it.
