Yeah, I can show the grocery long list of injuries we've had at DB over the years. We better not bank on just Sherman esp. in a CB FA pool that is pretty deep. Plus, given the amount of time we might spend in nickel and dime sets, you needs at least 4 great CB's. Finally, you draft a CB who you feel you can develop under Sherman for a year.

The contract terms are important to this discussion and the more we learn about it, the more incentive-driven it becomes. From what we know as it continues to leak, this deal doesn't handcuff the 49ers from chasing after any other CB free-agents or for that matter, OL or WRs. This move was taking advantage of a situation, I don't think it was part of any long-term strategy for FA. Don't be surprised if the 49ers bring in others. Sherman will have to earn his spot. I'm not telling you what I think, I'm telling you what the money (contract) says. Always follow the $.

Perfectly noted!

I am torn with our 1st round pick, I want Edmunds really bad, because he's still only 19, and is so dominant and can play pretty much all the LB spots. But if one of the elite QB's slide to 9, I can easily see the Bills moving up to get that QB, and paying out the nose to us. They have 2 1st round picks this year, so we could easily get those, and quite a bit more. Anyone know on the value chart what our 9th pick would net us from the Bills? I know if a team is moving up for a QB that pick is valued a tad higher than normal on the charts.

We can trade up for Chubb now if the stars fall our way in picks 1 though 6.

This doesn't change the fact that we will most likely draft 1-2 CBs in the draft as well, but Sherman is an excellent stop gap to develop a mid-round CB into an eventual starter.

He becomes our best coach on defense as well

No guarantee on that
he is a great player and a great student of the game which tells me he will be a great coach for the secondary and gives us an edge which may not show up in quik stats but one we have sorely lacked.. if you can not get past your past hatred for someone just cuz he backed up his talk with his play when he played us. that is your problem

I wouldn't want a player who would apologize for that. I want Sherman to do the same thing to another team while he's wearing Red and Gold.

Lets be honest, all the hostility Sherman had towards the niners was fueled by his relationship with Harbaugh.

To be honest, im more pissed off at Talibs refusal to report than signing Sherman. I honestly think I hate Talib more than i ever could have hated Sherman.

I could see the hate for Talib (I never wanted him in the first place) but I understand why he didn't want to got to SF. It doesn't matter now, I bet the Rams would've wanted Sherman over Talib too, that's what happens when you act too fast.

Don't forget Crabtree.
If he has something left great, love the move. He knows the system we are trying to run, he is emotional player who will take it out two games a years against the drop city piss pigeons personally. The trash he will talk about the Seahags will have their fans in tears, all good stuff....if he has lost a step and sucks, it will be a pleasure to cut him...real no downside!

Our best corner since Deion

Yup.
lets pump the breaks on that but.. well.. you could be right. what did we have, walt harris for a while. carlos for a while. other than than. from webb and twisted ankles to rumph . back in the jh days. aside from rogers our secondary was weak and only good cuz we had a great pass rush. when that pass rush went away. like in the super bowl. we saw what we were . and that keystone cops show has continued in my opinion. giving sherman the chance is alot better than last year when we and lynch hoped ward would be the cornerstone
Just read Talib rejected a trade to the 49ers. Quite happy he did. And, if I had to choose I would take Sherman over Talib every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. It's odd for me to feel that way too, because I am usually a glass half empty kind of guy.

Sherman, if healthy, is a great addition on the field.

If Sherman doesn't return to form, he is still a fantastic presence and mentor for the rest of that defense, almost all of them young professionals. And, with his contract, there is nothing about this trade that doesn't ripple positive energy.

Reading the 49ers wanted Talib makes me sad though. He seems like a high priced little b***h (I realize the same can be said about Sherman, but I never felt that way about him...and I can't pinpoint why ).

it was crabgrass in my opinion. why did we ever think he would win a battle with sherman at crunch time

I think that was just a byproduct of the intense hatred for Harbaugh. I always got the feeling that Sherman thought Harbaugh was trying to blackball him. I don't know if that a legit claim, but I remember hearing stories.
Teachable moment: this is why you NEVER wish ill will on your enemy.

How many of you were elated to see Dick go down? LOL
