Sherman's no dummy. He's got plenty of money. He's got plenty of fame. He has a Ring. He has a Stanford education.

I think he wants very badly to stick it to the team that cut him, and the incentives will fill in any holes in his motivation he may have.

Also on that 10th point, florio worded it terrible, read NFL.com's article, it becomes GTD if he makes the Pro Bowl, but we can cut him after 2018 and not owe him anything.

So... is it guaranteed or not? These two statements seem to contradict each other.

GTD for injury only.

Hopefully he doesn't sneak into the Pro Bowl and then maintains an injury
the way players back out of the Probowl..it could happen
Even if he's the 4th alternate for the pro-bowl it's still worth it at that salary. Not to mention it would mean that his achilles held up throughout the season and he could be expected to recover/improve even more in 2019. This is why players shouldn't be their own agents.

You'd think he could have gotten a better deal elsewhere.

He is also very intelligent from what I have read, but he should have still retained an agent.

I actually respect he is betting on himself. If he earns 90%+ of that contract he be kicking some serious ass for us.
If anything he's too smart of a player to not be good if not a great again. The way this system lets him play it won't matter if he slowed down a little because technique, film study and his length will cover up a lot. Having Colbert back there basically able to cover the entire field with his speed will also help.

I think he looks at it this way: what would his previous 11 Million dollar salary look like after an agent gets 20%? About 8.8 Million? Might as well be your own agent.
To be clear, the pro bowl incentive, he has to selected, he can't be added as an alternate to get that incentive paid to him. So he has to be one of the top 4 CBs in the NFC each year, voting wise, to earn that money.

If he's 100% or close, that should be a gimme.

agreed, if he's 100%, he should be a top 4 cb in the NFC no problem. just wanted to make that noted, that he needs to be elected initially to earn the incentive.

Not a huge fan of Sherman of course, but I'll warm up to the guy.

If he goes on Twitter at some point saying that Jimmy G is better than Wilson, he will have won me over for life.

i wonder if he'll spill the beans on wilson and how he is really like lol.

I can see him going to a TV gig after his career is over. I can see him asking for TV advice from John Lynch on how to get a TV gig.

20%!?!?? There's no agent that takes remotely anywhere near 20% Otherwise every player would represent himself. 3% at most

The way Reuben's been acting, if he represented himself he'd wind up paying the Niners.

The fact that his tweet about this upcoming story has the quoted word "vengeful" is already illuminating.

Agents will also look out for themselves and make sure that the player gets the most money so the agent can get his cut. They are supposed to represent the player, but the agent will do his best to convince the player, a deal that offers less money is not the best deal vs a deal with more money. There were a lot of teams that wanted him, and I bet he would have got more money from them, but also it's an emotional issue too. The bay area is home to him, in a sense, and he may be looking at non-football opportunities too.

So let me get this straight, Sherman actually signed a team friendly deal that REALLY favors the TEAM!!!

This guy could've gotten $10 million more guaranteed easily!!! Sherman REALLY wanted to be a 49er no doubt!!!
