Looks to me that Sherman got what he wanted and the team got what they wanted too. Again the best possible thing that needs to happen is for Sherman to get his money, all of his money. Could be like getting Sanders

Late in the process, when Sherman and the Niners agreed on most of the incentives in the deal, he got back to the three most interested teams. Seattle, interestingly enough, wanted the first right of refusal on any offer, and so Sherman called Seahawks GM John Schneider. Sherman said Schneider told him, "Incentives [are] a little rich for me." Sherman called Oakland GM Reggie McKenzie, who said he wasn't going to have the cap money to compete for him. And Sherman called Detroit coach Matt Patricia and GM Bob Quinn; incentive package too rich for Detroit's blood.
So if Sherman wanted a deal today, and if he wanted a sure thing, he'd have to go with the 49ers. With the other contenders falling by the wayside, and with one final concession by the Niners, Sherman's decision was made for him. He shook hands with Lynch, hugged him, and the deal was done.

well that's interesting

This is why we're in the driver's seat for FA...we CAN front load and incentivive deals like few other teams can; or are willing too.

"This is how much Richard studied this," Marathe said. "We had a clause in a bunch of our contracts saying players got an incentive for making the Pro Bowl, even if they were medically excused from playing in the Pro Bowl. Richard said, 'What if I'm voted to the Pro Bowl and I can't go because we're in the Super Bowl?' We thought, He's right. Great observation. We changed the wording."

I like how this guy thinks.

This is great!

Great read!
This signing gets better and better every day....Lehhsss Goooo Niners!!

Buh God! That's Patrick Willis's music! Dat boy said he's back for one last ride!!!

Remember the Whoop, there it is game?
Getting Prime turned out alright for us.
And I think that he was more of a pure athlete. Sherman can teach the young guys technique.

Sherman has been representing himself, so this contract is sure to be criticized by the agent community. So if Sherman doesn't recover smoothly from his Achilles' surgeries, the 49ers could conceivably release him before the season and be on the hook for only $3 million. Sherman also agreed to turn $6 million of his total potential earnings into per-game roster bonuses, paid only if Sherman is on the active, game-day roster. It's an incredibly team-friendly deal."

Paraag is a legend. It probably wasn't even fair for a player to go in trying to represent himself and talk deal with him. Sherman is a smart dude, but he has little to no experience negotiating a deal like this.

Sherman is gonna be the poster boy of why agents are needed.

I don't think it's that bad for him. The agents may spin it so that they are the needed party for players conctract. Sherman seemed to be an intelligent guy that did his research.

I doubt an agent could have done any better with a CB coming off an Achilles. Remember this guy isn't even running yet in the process of rehab. He has no leverage other than his past. So the contract has to reflect the process of injury recovery for CB.

The guaranteed money is split into every step of the recovery, from signing (3mil), after TC(2mil roster bonus), and playing incentives to reflect how well he has retained his talent after the injuries. And this is just for his first year of recovery. In 2019 and 2020, the guaranteed are high and fully, once the team accepted him for that year.

It's a fair deal for both sides.

The more I am hearing, the more I am realizing it is not about the financial compensation for Sherman. He is a smart guy, has already made a lot of money and hopefully has invested it wisely. This was about hefting a boulder sized chip on his shoulder and going after the Squawks, who he feels did him wrong.

I can see one more scenario playing itself out. He is not ready at the start of the year, but eventually comes in and proves he is back and he has healed. Even if he does not meet his incentives to guarantee the final two years, I could see the 9ers wanting to engage the final years to keep him. Particularly if he is helping the young corners.

Yeah, we won the contract with the Sherminator because the other teams thought the incentives were **too rich.** We had the cap space, they didn't. For Sherman, he doesn't have to learn a new defense that can impact his performance. If there is a team that he can play for that will actually be the best in terms of peformance - San Francisco is one of the best because he knows the SF defense front and back. He couldn't do that with Matt Patricia, the Pats, or most of the other teams that were gunning for him.

Yep, as long as the 49ers and Sherman are willing, any clause in the contract and the contract itself can be re-written and re-negotiated.
