Well, yeah, if Sherman could have guaranteed all 3 years, that would have been a better contract, but I don't think those executives could have gotten that from the 49ers. There's also more creative ways to do incentives like Interceptions, tackels, and passes defensed, but you don't have much time considering the free agency starts pretty much the next business day. The more time it takes to do the contract, the closer free agency comes and Sherman risks losing the 49er opportunity to some other free agent CB. The market is the market, and no contract can change that fact for both sides.
Peter Schrager followed up his first statement with something like that. He gave Sherman props for repping himself

I didn't like the idea at first because of his ruptured achilles but if he does get injured he leaves money on the table correct?

Well, for me it took a few drinks. Then I started to think about the scheme fit (because is a good fit schematically), how he fits the physical mold of the kind of CB Robert Saleh covets, that he's no threat to have of-the-field issues, that we take a big piece from a hated rival, and that he has a honest motivation for beating said rival. So after knocking back a few straight with a couple IPA chasers I've fully come around to this.
I cannot wait for the season to start I guarantee you that both SF - Sea games will be on national TV.
Does Seattle have any WRs that need covering?

He ruptured his Achilles in November, it will be about 10 months since when the season starts. The second surgery was minor.
Anyone not excited about this is letting emotion get in the way. He's really really good and was having a great season before the injury. If healthy he's better than Talib and Peters.

Yup. Even missing a game costs him big bucks. Sherman signed the contract with the thought that he will play every game and over 90% of the defensive snaps, while making the pro bowl. Basically if he plays like crap or gets hurt, niners can cut bait for almost nothing.

Yes. A lot. He really bet on himself to a) be healthy and b) be able to perform at a high level still.

Sherman calls 3 teams before signing 49ers contract. None will match or beat it.
24 hours later he left money on the table...

ya Sherman could've gotten more guaranteed, but you can tell it's not about the money for him now. He wants revenge on the Seahawks, while still being on a productive team. Like Lynch said, we gave him the chance to play SEA twice a year.

Funny, other teams could have matched or bested but didn't

certainly strange seeing him in red and gold. But I will take it. It's a different NFL now, really Pro Sports in General is like this.
