Meanwhile, like anti-vaxxers/covid deniers, there are a set of fans who think CTE is no big deal and really not a concern

Wtf does that have to do with anything?
Everyone's life is different. Looks like he was going through family issues. Have to be sensitive to that.

Aggression, depression, increased suicidal thoughts are symptoms of cte. It's not like Sherman pulled his dick out at the movies and we're like cte.

When there's a court order saying you can't have a gun that typically points to some mental illness issues.

Step away from the crack pipe.

Sherm deserves everything he gets and probably more. Strength is not something only shown on the football field.

Agree with a previous post......remorseful but pleads not guilty?????

Get this f'n thread out of the 49er discussion. This idiot is not a Niner.

Stfu you ass. You don't speak for everyone, especially when this guy is owning you.

CTE doesn't cause someone to get insanely drunk and get behind the wheel. Personal choice does. I think it's obvious the guy needs help but making excuses and coddling the guys wrong doings is ridiculous.
Man, you people are amazing! You sit there on your high horses and try to judge someone without knowing anything about the man, You characterize him, revile him, say you would never have him on the 49ers team, and generally act as if you are so upstanding that you can sit there and be judge, jury and executioner with no conscience. I love the team; I have loved the team through greatness and the depths of despair. However, I have really grown to dislike the posters in this forum. This topic should be locked and taken down. It only serves to foment disease among the posters. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." ( I expect that now many of you holier than thou posters will attack me, because that is what you do.) There is a reason Kyle Shanahan is the 49er Head Coach and not you.

Not sure if you're talking about me but I have a DUI so I've casted that stone and admit my own stupid cowardice. I do not feel bad for him even one bit but I also get no pleasure out of his demise. He f**ked up, admit what he did was f**ked up and move on. By no means should this ruin him but there are consequences.
Eh,Likely this is an example of why drinking may not end the way one expects. No one died, feelings were hurt, relationships likely broken, sides taken.Compromises not met.Pampered egos stepped on.Who Knows? s**t happens yet life goes on.Man up Richard, back to work.

Sadly, this isn't just a 49er fan base thing, every team has these type of awful "fans"

I don't know why people always have to jump to CTE, racism, etc. The majority of people I know have had a regrettable night after drinking too much. That seems like the most likely scenario.

It'd be one thing if this was chronic poor behavior, but this is like a one-off incident as far as I know.

The point people are trying to make is you can definitely have mental illness issues without CTE being the cause, see a large portion of the population. Substance abuse issues could be a sign of a more complex mental illness (beyond the substance abuse itself), or it could be substance abuse. CTE should not be an automatic assumption based on him being a football player. Possible, but so are a number of other things to cause this. The fact that nobody on here knew about the issues he has been facing the past several months shows how little we know about these players.

Thanks for the soap box talk.

While you defend Sherm who has all the possible resources any one could possibly have to ensure good health and decison making. Make sure you also stick up for the family that had to endure his transgressions including the kids. This could have been much worse for the family.

No one should have ill will towards him but he needs to own it full stop.

Not to mention the comments around the mother/wife. Get on your soap box about that one too.

The Drew Robinson story is a prime example. Wow never knew about this until it was posted on the front page of ESPN the other day - tragic and scary yet inspiring.
