Hiring another guy who's never done the job before.... Get ready for more terrible defense.
Stop talking BS. Lynch and Shanahan hired this guy not Jed.

Lets just be all happy that mangini and o niel are gone. give the guy a chance.

Enter Pete Carroll. Now one of the biggest reasons why this defense is considered a hybrid is because the defensive line mixes between two gapping with certain players (and 3-4 concepts) with one gapping in the traditional 4-3. As you can see here in the 4-3 Under Front, half of the defensive line is two gapping, and the other half is one gapping (Pictures taken from Eric Stoner's impressive article on BCG):
Kawakami posted excerpts on his recent interview with Lynch, who said he and Kyle wanted to emulate successful organizations like Seattle. Lynch spoke about the positive atmosphere in the Seattle building.

"-LYNCH: The one that Kyle and I talked a lot about is one of our competitors, what's going on up in Seattle. Even some of that language, you know, 'subject to the approval of the head coach.' Those types of things.

It's a copy cat league and when something's working, I think they have great harmony. I've been up at Seattle a bunch as a broadcaster. When you walk in that building, there's a real positive vibe. Because you get the sense that everyone's together; they speak the same language.

I think it's reflected in that relationship at the top, from (Seattle owner) Paul Allen on down. It was a model we said let's try to emulate."

Gus Bradley thought highly enough to make Saleh his LB coach so hopefully he has it in him to become a great DC one day. This hire blends into the starting fresh theme. I'm all for it, especially if our D shows progress throughout the season.

I think people are overhyping this 3-4/4-3 thing. Some teams don't even have a "base defense" anymore. They just have personnel that can adapt to different fronts depending upon the package.

I don't think we're having a scheme switch. We're just going to run a different set of packages. Some may be 3-4, some may be 4-3

I feel like we've been here before...but now have to change our personnel.

I agree with this. The niners can play Lynch, Brooks, Blair, Carradine and others up or down to convert between 3/4 and 4/3...or even 5/2. Lynch, Carradine and Blair are all 270, while Brooks is 260.

I'll go a step further and say that even some positions are hybrid like linebacker and safety. As tight ends are becoming big WRs who can block, linebackers are becoming safeties who stop the run and cover down the field.
LDE-Armstead
LDT- Dial/FA Pickup
RDT- Buckner
RDE- Ingram or high draft pick
Lynch as lass rushing specialist

Armstrong, Bowman and Harold are not a bad trio of LB's in a 4-3. Armstrong could really shine in this D if he can stay healthy and I think Harold will be a better 4-3 OLB than 3/4 and could be a Bruce Irvin type for us..... I do expect us to draft two LB's in the first 4 rds
He's not on the no fly list is he?

Buck is a better pass rusher than AA, I'd switch them.
I get it now. We're going to run Seattle's scheme so that in practice, the offense will be highly productive and successful and become confident. Brilliant.
