I'm of the opinion that Saleh wearing a shirt with the Lebanese flag on it played a huge role in the rather "sudden" decision that Woody Johnson made to fire the man. A simple Google search of the terms "Woody Johnson" and "Israel" will bring up pages and pages of interesting information after you get beyond the news of Saleh. Johnson has some very powerful and very wealthy friends in Israel, which have been used to feather the accounts of whatever cause Johnson has his fingers in. Some of these interests are political. Some are not. But if you read between the lines, the connections are deep and full of $$$.

I've worked in multiple political offices. The slightest of offenses can set electeds, or staff, off. As a simple staffer, you may not have played any roles in any decisions. But, you're still going to hear about the anger or the vitriol or both. Because you have that connection. Or you're just standing there. So, you're going to get an earful from an overheated person or group with interests in any political decision that has been made.

I wouldn't dismiss this story about the Lebanese flag on Saleh's shirt. I've seen stuff like this play out before, over other issues. It can cost jobs or careers. I don't give a flip if Saleh was asked to wear that shirt. Just because someone asks, does not mean you adhere to the request. Saleh should have known better.

man this is so bad of a take. first of all, Woody has been owner since 2000. so for you to believe this, why did he hire Saleh in the first place? You don't get to slander ppl as bad ppl. show me the evidence. having an opinion on Israel, isn't evidence that you are hateful toward Lebanese folks. and again if you don't like Lebanese folks, why the bleep would you hire one to lead your franchise? why would you pay one millions of your dollars? are you truly thinking this through here?

also you will notice much of the propaganda claiming the patch is the reason, it will say things like he wore this 3 days ago, and now he is fired. this is a lie of omission. it leaves out that he wore the patch last year. and if you are watching NFL football hundreds wear patches. I saw Chase Brown and his maple leaf. it's an NFL initiative. if Brown gets benched, i don't want to hear it's cuz he's Canadian, and there are anti maple leafs folks. bring evidence not just slandering folks without basis. you are doing a hearsay and conjecture game to slander someone with no hard evidence.

here is the NFL program this is from 2023. Saleh isn't making some statement. he's just wearing league gear

Good points. But you're dismissing the current state of international politics. Israel and Iran have never been the best of buddies, but right now tensions are pretty high. Lebanon is not the problem. But the fact that Hezbollah is based there, and is launching rockets at Israel from Lebanon, does make it an issue.

I'm just offering my take as a former political staffer. I've witnessed stuff like this play out before. I would not simply dismiss this story. In 2023 this would not have been an issue. But in 2024, it is.

Sometimes what the NFL wants (for you to wear a shirt with a flag on it), is NOT what the team owner wants. So, as a coach, you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. You're going to royally piss off someone no matter what action you take. So, which action do you take? What would you do?

I faced this same issue in a political office once. There was no "win" in my decision. I was going to piss someone off no matter what I did.

I'm dismissing it, cuz i believe in innocent until proven guilty. so you would need some smoking gun, hard evidence.

this is all made up imo. ppl who want to generate some rage and some clicks. Saleh himself is cordial, and thanked NYJ for the opportunity.

also you raise an interesting moral quandary. to me being yourself is a true win. if the org is gonna be hostile to you for being yourself, then it's healthy you get out of that org. i just have no evidence that was done here. and i'm not gonna hate on the owner without evidence, or make likely false insinuations. just my 2 cents on that.

The flag story is click bait, IMO.

Saleh lost his sparkle during the two years of the Zach Wilson debacle. There is no need to recount all of that here. It was a mess and Saleh never seemed to have a vision of how to make it work. Last year was just more of the same - no quarterback, no wins.

Taking time off to let the dust settle is a good idea. He can disappear and let GMs around the league forget about the failure in NY. Next spring he will have a chance to rebuild his reputation as a DC. So far, he is playing this well.
I think it came down to the owner getting embarrassed by his former "bust" QB in front of all his Europe buddies and I'm sure he called Aaron and he probably threw Saleh under the bus.

Interesting points. I cannot disagree with you. I can only refer to what I faced as a former political staffer. There is no smoking gun. There is no hard evidence. Nobody wants that. Assume, if you will, that the story is true. Do you think anyone connected with this is going to raise a hand and say: "yes, it was me. I did it. I'm responsible." That does not happen. You are looking for a clear color in a world of gray.

Of course Saleh is cordial. Of course he thanked the Jets. Why wouldn't he? Would we both not do something like that?

My story was simple: My direct boss, the person who hired me, gave me an assignment to do. It was a simple assignment. Easy to do. At the same time, the person who hired my boss told me the following in a direct manner: Do NOT do that under any circumstance or I will fire you.

So, what would you have done with instructions like that? Go back to the first boss and tell him what the main boss had instructed? What if the first boss told you, "I don't care what he said. Do it anyway or you're fired."

This did happen. Politics ain't easy. If there is a way to "win," I never found that path.

that sounds like an effed up situation. too many bosses, and pointing you in different directions. i would level and say look you don't get play the darned if you do and darned if you don't game on me. hope to appeal using logic. but these ppl don't sound very logical so this probably wouldn't work. sometimes you just aren't in a situation which is winnable. i would like to see a seinfeld on this, so we can see how Costanza would play it. he'd probably try to make it look like he did the assignment to one boss, and swear up and down he didn't touch the assignment to the other boss.

Would love to have Saleh as head coach of the 49ers with Kyle Shanahan as our OC. That would work…

Why? Saleh hasn't shown tha the's a good HC and there's no way Kyle would accept that role.

Its probably because he thinks Salah hates Jewish people like he does so he'll give him the keys to the franchise no matter what.

It's because that dude is a troll. Pretty safe to ignore that one, there's a reason even its mom can't stand it.
