So, I doubt they'll change the defense. It only makes good sense. Shanahan got started hiring coaches very late, so a number of the guys he potentially wanted simply weren't available. Next year's staff could look considerably different than this year's.

That doesn't make any sense. If they're waiting for Fangio (which is ridiculous) why wouldn't they at least hire a DC that knows Fangio's system better like Ed Donatell who's been coaching with him the last 6 years. Saleh was with him for 1 year in Houston as a Defensive intern (the only year he hasn't been in a 4-3). We're definitely running the Falcons, Jags, Seahawks 4-3 imo. Love me some 3-4 though .

I don't know why people are saying AA is a bust. He was a 3-4 Tackle. They don't make a ton of plays and he wasn't that bad. The Cowboy was a Freak.

He was graded very well by PFF in his rookie season and was hurt last season. Definitely not a bust.

Lol, that's the truth.

We are a NT and an OLB away from having a very solid box, both can be addressed this off season what are you guys talking about??

Probably, needs as much for a 4-3.

I remember my bro talking about that dou, interesting point
Ugh. Stop it with "we don't have the personnel."

4-3 Needs:
Run stuffing DT
Pass rusher
Athletic LB

3-4 Needs:
Run stuffing DT
Pass rusher
Athletic LB

This is the first hire that i have not been sold on.

Taking the wait and see stance on this one. I want to see what kind of transition plan they have in place for the defense. I don't want to see the defensive side of the football prolong the rebuild.

Pretty much the same needs as the defense Saleh would run. We would need to add to our LB core in both schemes as well.

Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic that a move to the 4-3 under might better utilize the existing group, which is a bit heavier on down linemen. And if things don't work out, they can eventually go back to a 3-4. I think Buckner and Bowman are the only must haves right now. In general, I prefer the 3-4, but they've got to play the cards they're dealt and 4-3 under might be an alright fit.

4-3 we'd need two edge rushers, and new LB while forcing our two 1st round picks and our heart and soul of our defense (Bowman) out of thier natural scheme

Nice. I remember that duo for the Jaguars, they were a very good combo

Wrong. Read the article on the 4-3 under in this thread.

If they are awaiting Fangio than promoting Tarver would make the most sense, but Fangio will probably not even consider the 49ers after being passed over for Tomsula as Head Coach.
Good, it's badly needed change

Teams generally let position coaches take promotions to coordinators but not lateral moves
