I get what you are saying, But Fangio deserves all the respect he gets here. He is one of, if not the best DC this franchise has ever had. At least give him the respect he deserves.

You have gotten very cynical over the years. Bashing guys like Tomsula, stating he was an overrated DL coach. Making him sound barely competant enough to tie his own shoes. etc.

Its OK to want change, but you dont have to justify said change by needlessly bashing guys that did great work for us.

Its not Tomsulas fault that Baalkie hired him as HC. And its not Fangios fault that Baalkie chose to hire Tomsula over him.

Its ok to be excited about the new hires and still love Tomsula as a DL coach and Fangio as a DC for their time as 49ers. I promise its ok.

The Fangio talk got so loud because well, there were legitimate stories leading to the fact that the 49ers wanted him bakc, and hell, he may want to come back. People didnt just start pulling that rabbit out of their hat before the stories appeared.

Fangio won't be back. His defensive style is read and react, and Lynch said he doesn't want a read and react defense.

4-3 Needs:
Run stuffing DT
Pass rusher

3-4 Needs:
Run stuffing DT

Athletic LB

We also need a new safety for the 4-3

No we don't.

I'm not talking about what we need to make the defense a top 5. That's at least a year or two out. I'm talking about fielding a functioning defense that won't give up 300 rush yards a game. Lets shoot for a D that is in the top half of the league first.

For that, we need 3 things. Pass rusher, run stuffing DT, and an athletic LB. We need these 3 positions regardless of scheme.

At safety, We have 2 pro bowlers and 2 1st round picks. We don't need a safety to make the defense work. We may need one to make it perform at a high level, but that's later on.

There's nothing wrong with getting Eric Berry this year

I think its "Saul-uh"

Better Call Sal-eh.

He'd just be a waste. Got to get him when your good - not in rebuilding years.
I find it absolutely hilarious that all those apposed to anything this team does when it comes to acquiring players, coaches, requesting the release of players or trades, play calling, etc., all the while thinking they are in control of all this really need to rethink your life and or Fandom. We as fans have absolutely no say in anything this team does. I started watching this team in the early 80's after they have already won their first super bowl. It was fun watching Montana pick apart almost every team he played. Then came Young in 92' and had fun watching an entire different style of offense with a lefty at QB. Now again. Our team is crap for what looks to be the 3rd time in history for back to back yrs. I LOVE this team though they have been hard to watch especially last yr. Now that we are getting back to our roots with the WCO that was originally created by the Legendary BILL WALSH, I'm optimistic about the future with Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch running this team. I really hope this new change works out but we won't know for at least 2 years maybe 3. All those that continue to put down players and coaches have really no idea what moves will be made in the very near future so let's let the PROFESSIONAL'S (now that we have some) do there job collectively as a team and see what they put together as far as the 2017 team goes. I like Y'all have no say In what they will do so let's chill out and see

Took your advice and rethought my life and my fandom. I'm here during the offseason so I'm a pretty good fan imho tbph fwiw. I b***h and complain, not because I think it will affect the team's future, but so I can share thoughts with fellow fans expressing their fandom.

I like it when new posters get on their soapbox.

I'm all fairness, we're nowhere near being able to run a legit 3-4 either. lol

If we can grab Poe in FA and possibly get Myles...

49ers probably go back to the 4-3. Whatever works. It didn't make sense when the 3-4 was working, but the defense is broken so now is as good a time as any to switch. Had a good run going back to Nolan days . I'm excited to see DeFo as a 3tech. 1v1 versus a guard, I think once he develops physically he can be dominant.

Agreed. You always want to strengthen the front seven.

Then as someone who has read 'thousands' of posts, you should know better than to rant about the state of the Niners fandom in a DC thread.
