Just have to look for good fits now for a cover 3, single-high S and the WCO.

Mock-away!

Keep Tartt at strong safety. He can play in the box or fill that flat role(you know, the one that picked off Kaepernick in the NFCC).

The assignments in this type of defense are very simple for the LBs and DBs. That's why they draft guys that are athletes. They want them thinking less and flying around the field more.

Good points...I really like Tartt...Release Bethea another pricey vet that doesn't make enough plays.
RDE- (LEO/Elephant)- Melvin Ingram
RDT- (Two-Gaper)- Glenn Dorsey/Ian Williams/Mid Round Pick
LDT- DeForest Buckner/Ronald Blair
LDE- Arik Armstead/Ronald Blair

SLB- Eli Harold and/or Ahmad Brooks

MLB- Bowman/Draft Pick (3rd or 4th rd pick)

WLB- Ray-Ray Armstrong (Late round pick)

FS- Jimmy Ward
SS-Eric Reid/Tartt
LCB- Rashard Robinson
RCB- FA Pickup
Nickel- Redmond or draft pick
With the 2nd pick the 49ers select Jonathan Allen, DT..

Wasn't ray ray in a 4-3 before coming here and didn't he fail miserably? Would like Ingram

In wonder how this might affect our draft now: Garrett, Allen, Lattimore, Adams/Hooker, Foster, etc.?
Actually pretty exciting. WCO and a Seattle style defense

2017 will be about seeing how people adapt. The Falcons run the same Seattle defensive system and it still hasn't fully taken off yet, but the offense has helped overcome the defensive deficiencies so far. If we do indeed run that system, I hope our players can adapt quickly.

On paper, there are clear holes regardless of what system we run, but assuming we're a 4-3, this is what I'm looking at:

DL Armstead - Buckner - Dorsey - Lynch
Depth: Carradine, Dial, Jones, Harold, Blair

LB Ahmad Brooks - Navorro Bowman - Gerald Hodges
Depth: Ray Ray Armstrong, Shane Skov, Tartt, Harold

CB Tramaine Brock - Rashard Robinson
Depth: Redmond, Reasor, Johnson, Chris Davis, Iworah, Shepherd

S Ward - Reid
Depth: Cromartie, Tartt

**Notes: Bethea traded/released, Dorsey re-signed

Clear needs (shocker, they're all along the front seven):

1. More speed and youth across every LB position
2. Lane-clogging, run stuffing DT in the middle
3. More speed on the edges at DE

49ers defense has a chance to be much better than their 25th ranked defense with a healthy Bowman. I'm also banking on the 49ers getting Garrett, I just don't think Cleveland will take him.

Switching schemes isn't a smart move...largely because I don't believe Saleh will be the DC for long. Once Fangio's free of his Bears contract, Shanahan will want him to take over his defense. It makes no sense to switch defenses for 2017 if Fangio's the DC beyond that. All this talk about AA being traded is pure nonsense. He's a keeper, make no mistake about that. In him and Buckner, the Niners have two young studs who'll only get better, especially with a stud NT in the middle. BL is I think staying in a base 3-4 using the hybrid appropriately is the way to go 'til Shanahan hires the guy who'll be the permanent DC. I don't see Saleh as that guy.

Of course. Quick note, I switched out Hodges for Armstrong. But honestly, I don't think either of them are a great fit at WILL in the 4-3. We could do a lot better than that by adding someone new.
IF we really plan to go after Fangio next off-season, then I don't understand this acqusition at all. Would have rather stayed with JoN then.

It's disheartening that we have to copy Seattle for anything. All the hype and only one trophy, with some regression to the mean.
