^^ I disagree with some of this NC.

Best pass rushers: Buckner and Blair
Best immobile blocks: Armstead and Dorsey
Best backup: Dial
DEs who are posibles for the 4/3: Buckner, Blair, Lynch, Carradine. Brooks. Out of this group I would expect they will be OK.

To me this means they need a replacement for Williams who is actually capable of staying healthy. That means he has to be a short power guy who isn't beaten down through out the year. There are some free agents but there is no gaurantees one will sign. If they are shifting to the 4/3 they still need a stud for the middle who can't be moved. Neither Buckner or Armstead are that guy, Blair is too small and Dial is best suited to back up along the DL.

Greatest need for DL: NT/DT

LB is a huge question other than Bowman...if he is totally recovered. I would keep him in the middle as he is the best brain for the D.
OLB: Harold, Hodges, Armstrong...there are no elite options.

Greatest need at LB: OLB pass rushers

Clear needs (shocker, they're all along the front seven):

1. More speed and youth across every LB position
2. Lane-clogging, run stuffing DT in the middle
3. More speed on the edges at DE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really like this...Yes, pretty obvious that speed and strength are needed along the front 7

I have concerns that Brooks can cover as a 4- 3 linebacker...Bethea is pure garbage, can't cover and is not a run stuffer...Reid doesn't make enough plays and often hurt.

I'd say release or trade Brooks, Bethea, and Reid with the money saved go out and get a couple of high motor, speed, tough guys.

Before FA or draft, IMO... RayRay is taking the WILL spot and will be able to fly around, the SAM spot would be a two way battle with Harold/Brooks, I think Eli would be better for the role and would be our version of Julian Peterson. Hodges's is a FA too if I'm not mistaken. Then Brooks/Lynch would be our Leo's, with Tank backing up both DE spots.

I'd bring back Dorsey as a cheap option to play the run next to Buck and AA who I believe will be a solid strong side DE on run downs. SAM and Leo are the positions in question.

maybe, but if we're rumored to get Fangio, why switch to a 4-3? If we're planning on making the switch permanent for the time being, what "more qualified" candidates run the 4-3? Saleh isn't a sexy hire, but he learned under Carroll and Bradley, who are pretty damn good at defense. I didn't like him but after I did a little research, he has the potential.

I could be wrong but the fangio request was done before Shanahan was finalized? Could that have made it a Jed move more than a Kyle move?

I would say right now it would be:

RE: Harold (upgrade needed)
RDT: Buckner
LDT: Armstead
LE: Lynch
ROB: Bowman
MLB: (upgrade needed)
LOB: RayRay
AA is an unproductive pass rusher and horrible against the run. He's going to come off the bench. I would rather see Blair there.

Lynch and Harold will not start as DEs.

Yes, very good article. Key point is what Pete Carroll has said about this style defense. It is a 4-3 with 3-4 personnel. There is a lot of crossover and flexibility. The guys we have now, particularly Buckner and Armstead, we don't have to worry about. They will fit in the scheme.
