This roster needs big talent not high risk picks. There isn't 1 wide receiver in this draft worthy of the #2 pick.

I agree with that approach for the most part. At 2nd overall, I don't think we have to worry about settling for a less talented player. There will be a number of good players on the board. Hooker is a really good player, but I'm not sold on a safety at 2nd overall considering all of our other needs. I love going BPA , but immediate need does have to be taken into account when making the decision.

How about we give him a full season before figuring out if he's in the plans or not? It's not like he's costing us some crazy contract and everyone knew he was raw coming out of college with only 1 yr fully committed to college.

Well I believe thats what we are forced to do because of Baalke and Co.

As of right now if we stay at #2 and Myles Garrett is gone I'm taking Malik Hooker or Jonathan Allen. Allen is also intriguing for me because I believe he can play the Michael Bennett role on this team. He can play DT and really push the pocket from the inside. Hooker provides a skill that's very hard to duplicate in the NFL. A lot will depend on which direction we go in free agency but as of now I'd rather sign a good interior defensive linemen and draft Hooker.

We already have DTs that can push the pocket and when's the last time you've seen a S drafted in the Top 2?

Teams will trade up for QBs (see last years' draft) so if Garrett is gone and we don't value one of the QBs that high then trading down is the best option.

Great idea just have to find a trading partner.

I have thought that trading down has been the best option since day one.

And it does not mean we need to Draft A SAFETY,our DBs are pretty good,it is one area where we are Strong, drafting a DB with the 2nd pick sound Like Baalkeism all over again.

We'll see how the QB market plays out but at this point the Jets, Buffalo, and Cleveland (@12) could be options. Chicago with a 1 spot trade up could be interested also.

yea i agree with this
There is so much to unpack in this thread.

First off, I'd like to figure out why people who think Armstead is a bust also feel that Abry Jones was the type of signing to come here and make an impact (seen that a lot on the WZ and other forums).

Second, it was apparent to anyone who watched without extreme pessimism that Armstead is much better when he is allowed to attack and get up the field. In fact, he is close to unblockable one on one in those situations because of his sheer power at the LOS. Being that he is also still learning football, I think it behooves us to be patient here.

I really don't get the logic that if guys don't flash all pro potential in the first 2 years they are considered busts.
49ers are getting back to their roots alright...so much so they are reinstalling Seifert's defense.

Same defense Carroll bit off of and has been running since his days at USC.

Here's my logic. If you draft Hooker you upgrade 2 positions at one time while also leaving Ward covering the slot. You move Reid to SS and cut Bethea and Hooker becomes the Earl Thomas at FS in our new Seattle 4-3/3-4 defense. I'd love for a great franchise QB to be there at #2 but I just don't see that in this draft. I don't see a QB,LB or WR worth the value as the #2 overall pick. If Garrett is gone the value I see with the #2 pick is Allen,Hooker,or Adams. I believe that Hooker is a major upgrade to our secondary and a difference maker. We can sign a pass rusher like Ingram but I just don't see a young Hooker in free agency. Eric Berry and his health conditions scare the hell out of me. Berry is going to command a big contract and his condition could come back at any time.
I agree with passing on a QB but if Garrett is gone and we're not taking Allen, I like Mike Williams/Corey Davis over Hooker.
In a trade down of course.
