4-3?? Oh hell no

I remember hearing Allen wasn't an option because he didn't have a spot on the 49ers in either a 3-4 or 4-3. Plus he might have a shoulder issue that could hurt his stock.

I'd rather focus on other positions and give AA some time to develop, hes only 23. Put a pass rusher like Garrett behind him and some decent linebackers and his play will improve drastically.
That's why I keep saying this season is going to be big for him because if he doesn't realize his potential he's at risk of getting cut.
This don't mean that we're switching to a 4-3.

Also how is AA a bust? We drafted him for his potential and after a season people are wanting to cut him.

Pretty much the equivalent of buying a long term stock and dumping it after a week because you don't see the short term results lol.

It was Trent Baalke managing his s**tty portfolio and handing it off to Lynch after all his stocks tanked.

I could be wrong but I think a Majority of his experience is in the 4-3.

Don't think that's happening anytime soon. He has a starting role in the system Saleh would presumably run.

I agree. I think AA will be the starting strong side base end.

The more I think about it AA may be better as a one gap penetrating 3T with Buckner 2 gap as a 4T. We need a NT and an upgrade at LEO would be ideal.

We could do that as well. I personally prefer Buckner as the 3-tech, because thats the premier interior player and Buckner is a superior player to Armstead. But I can also see how Armstead would benefit a lot from playing 3T.

Definitely need a NT, I wonder if Dial can fill that role.

LEO needs to be addressed aggressively. An impact player there is an absolute must. Get Melvin Ingram in free agency, or draft one in the first 2 rounds.

I think Buckner is the better player too. However, AA has shown to be somewhat of a liability against run and his skill set seems to match a 3T more. Buckner excelled in a similar role to what he played in this year.

Ideally Dial would be the 1st off the bench covering all 3 interior positions.

You're right. Saleh is going to sleep tonight and wake up with an understanding of the 3-4 to the point where it'll be functional at the NFL level.

Not arguing about all of his picks just AA

Allen layers into the same positions that both AA and Buckner play. Difference is Allen would be a better pass rusher from the outside.

Not officially, but looking at his track record he's never been a part of a 3-4 defense. He's always been on a staff that ran 4-3.

The thing I like about this style of defense is the type of players you go after. They often fit both 4-3 and 3-4. Edge rushers like Avril, Clemons, Irvin, Fowler, Beasley fit both 3-4 and 4-3. The d-lineman like Malik Jackson, Michael Bennett, Jared Odrick, Rashede Hageman, can play both 3-4 and 4-3.

So from a talent standpoint, its business as usual. Just go out and get good players. There will be a spot for them on this style of defense.
Lynch shouldn't continue Baalke's Twin Duck 6'9'' experiment just because we drafted high in the past, especially when it wasn't working well.

This is sunk cost fallacy.

A rebuild assumes 0 talent on the roster, and starting from square one.

This is wrong. He had to be doubled almost every play last year until his shoulder limited his effectiveness. Even as a rookie he was often doubled. The guy is a beast. Rewatch the D from last year and you will see that Buckner was washed out more often than Armstead, but Buckner is quicker and can be more effective as a pass rusher. The key to both is to learn to keep lower and maintain leverage...which is true of most tall DL. Campbell was the same way...as was Clowney, who is shorter but still had to learn leverage in the NFL.

Edit: my favorite play by Armstead, and he did it numerous times, was to grab an offensive lineman in each arm, stand up and still make the tackle. Horrible form but so strong that they couldn't move him out of the hole, even with a double.
