Surely we can find a coordinator who can do more than run a base defense.
I think it was working for most of the game until the last 8minutes. They were gassed at that point and needed the offense to put together a scoring drive. That never happened
Offense s**t the bed , but that 3rd and 15 was garbage too.

I'll give him credit. Hell of a turnaround from last year. Now you gotta be able to stop the elite QBs. Couldn't stop Drew Brees or Mahomes that much.

Defense was awesome for 3.5 quarters holding KC to 10 points. At some point in the 4Q they needed the offense to step up because 49er O vs Chiefs D was supposed to be a mismatch in the 49ers favor. I'm proud of how the D played even though I felt that 3rd & 15 was the turning point of the game.

Was 3-1 VS Danger Russ and Aaron Rodgers this year but I guess those don't count

Well said. Man i wish we would've rushed one more guy on that 3rd and 15th

Russ yes but A Rod has fallen out of the elite category for me.
Again he went to a soft zone shell coverage vs being aggressive. KC is a top offense against that defense. We saw it against green bay at the end of that game. It's like 4th quarter hits and they change everything that worked the whole game.
I was in the 'fire Saleh' camp going into the year. I'm still not sure if the success this season was due to the wide-9, new players, the addition of Kocurek and Woods or a combination of them all. I will say I was impressed with his overall scheming in the Super Bowl. The chiefs could do absolutely nothing for 3 quarters. Mahomes sucked and threw two picks. There were some missed tackles and obviously the one big mistake on the long pass play, but in general things were very good. There wasn't a whole lot more that could have been done once the Chiefs went in hurry up mode and our guys were gassed at the end.

No all22 yet but there is the player tracking data for that 3rd &15. Nice play design. The one thing this play needed in order to work was time for the route to develop deep downfield.
49ers in Cover3

When 14 goes 'vertical' (beyond 10 yards), 41 is to match 14 in man coverage. 14 breaks to the Post and removes 41 from the sideline deep 1/3. THill (10) stems inside to get Ward leaning, then breaks out to the Corner where there is no longer a sideline deep 1/3 defender (because Moseley has matched 14).

The tough to part is the underneath defenders were asked to protect the sticks and not match any verticals. This put Ward on an island.

There were 4 possessions 2 on offense and 2 on defense and we failed on all 4. Defense has much to blame for the loss, not just KS playcalling and JG lack of crunch time execution. The defense should not have put the offense in that situation.

Saleh went soft on our D calls starting with that 3rd and 15. Yes there was holding, but it was happening all day. We added more guys in the secondary who were out of position. Mahomes picked apart the Titans secondary the same way. We should have dialed up another LB blitz with Warner, there's no way that moon ball is released towards Hill.

It would be nitpicky to say that I was a bit surprised we seemed unprepared for the option plays, because the defense did very well outside a few moments.

Offense choked away all the defense's hard work. Unbelievable that we couldn't do all that much outside of the gadget plays.

My only issue is us not destroying Mahomes on those option plays. You have to tee off on QBs like that every chance you get.

+1
Tartt should have blasted him instead of back peddling on the one yard line and letting him score in the first half

Absolutely. Bosa too. Bosa hit him better than Tartt but both missed two tee-off opportunities for sure

I hear you but fading late You have to admit is a trend for us. Not just the Super Bowl. Both playoff games and the last 4 weeks of the Season featured teams making second-half comebacks on us. Some successful some not. By an inch. That's a systemic issue. That needs to be addressed possibly at the gameplan level Possibly at the play-calling level. From staff.
