49ers in Cover3

When 14 goes 'vertical' (beyond 10 yards), 41 is to match 14 in man coverage. 14 breaks to the Post and removes 41 from the sideline deep 1/3. THill (10) stems inside to get Ward leaning, then breaks out to the Corner where there is no longer a sideline deep 1/3 defender (because Moseley has matched 14).

The tough to part is the underneath defenders were asked to protect the sticks and not match any verticals. This put Ward on an island.

goddammit... obviously, in hindsight, I wish Moseley would've just passed his man off. who knows what could've happened after that, but still.

He would've taken the job had we won and Joe Woods would've been promoted to DC.

Yup. Way easier path to HC in the NFL. If the defense has a repeat performance he's likely gone.
Unfinished business
I hope he can influence Kyle and Lynch to draft a top level corner. I don't think Sherman is fast enough for some match ups in man to man while still being brilliant in zone and Mosley still plays like a rookie. He missed some he shouldn't have in the SB. Would be good to have a 3rd to insert now and then when required.
Respect to the God-King Xerxes!
Glad for the continuity, but imo he is not ready for HC. He has a lot of growing to do.

And we scored 0 offensively. When you play KC you know you have to score. If you think you're going to hold them all game you will eat a big fat l every time.

This. The defense did enough to win. Holding KC to 10 going into the 4th gave the offense more than enough help. We needed to do what Baltimore did against us the final 6 minutes of that game. Just hold the ball with a methodical drive.

4Q late drive collapses are where the defense really needs to improve. Hurry up/pace coupled with their soft shells just eats them alive when it matters most.
Since holding by the OL of our DL is perfectly legal now, proven all year, maybe it's time to focus top resources on coverage?
