Oh, the endless possibilities of our offense! Our team looking at the sidelines for the offensive play like we're in college is the distant past.

It's going to look weird...a WCO pocket passer, 2 back sets, a FB and a huddle. W...T...H?!

Iron sharpens iron!

As long as they are both dominating on Sundays I'm all for it! Can we get this guy staring across the LOS at Richard Sherman already? Suddenly I'm ready for season to start.
This is exactly what has been missing the last 17 yrs. i love it.

You know what, if you're gonna talk like that...he's gonna be relentless to prove himself. Maybe he takes the WR position fully serious now and thinks in this offense he can become GREAT and be remembered as more than a track star. I'm down to play madden and roll with what we got for the wide out group. Let's target the compliment RB and G push starter.

I'll predict 4th WR, active on game days

Only guy I think who has a chance to stick on current roster is Mr.Rogers

Ellington, Burbridge, Smelter, Ross and Carter camp bodies if not cut before that

Eric Rogers is not making this team. He might not even make it to TC. I think Burbridge has a decent chance of sticking around because he can play ST's as well

Rogers has a very legit chance of making this team IMHO. We currently have zero big-bodied dominant ZWR's for this WCO and he's the closest to that role. In fact, his combination of size, speed and production was a big reason Kelly brought him in here...then the injury happened. Rod Streater is another in that mold and could be resigned rather cheaply. As to Burbridge, he is not an outside WR and is more ideal in the slot as that tough, physical receiver who can make the tough catches (think Boldin from the slot). But he's got an uphill battle to make this team b/c the YWR spot is stacked and Goodwin, Robinson and Carter can line up everywhere to use their speed to exploit mismatches. Garcon will be moving between the X & Z often.

If I had to guess today, your 6 keepers are Garcon, Goodwin, Kerley, Robinson, Carter & Rogers...Ellington has an outside chance over Carter b/c of his versatility (even running him out of the backfield) but with his injury history, he's probably done. We'll probably keep 6 WR's b/c we'll probably keep at least 3 TE's in Vance McDonald, Logan Paulsen & Garrett Celek.

XWR: Pierre Garcon & Marquise Goodwin; DeAndre Carter & Chris Harper
YWR: Jeremy Kerley; Aldrick Robinson, Aaron Burbridge, Bruce Ellington & Rashad Ross
ZWR: Vacant; DeAndre Smelter & Eric Rogers

Why do Garcon and Goodwin have to both be at the X or split end position. It seems to be that Garcon would be a natural split end and Goodwin a flanker (or Z). Perhaps you can help me understand. Thx

I think he's talking more so for base downs... But no I feel you,it's not sexy to think of Goodwin as a starter. But to be honest even on base downs you gotta keep a safety on top cause if you don't were looking at first/second down play action bombs we'll make people pay for. I'm cool grooming a rookie and starting Goodwin.

The way BUF used Goodwin was as an undersized X (split end). Otherwise known as the weakside WR, that is not a part of a route combination. The proof is in the film and also that PFF stat that said 90% of his targets were on vertical routes/curls/deep Out. Those are exactly the kind of routes ran by an X. Not drags, slants, digs, etc. Re-watch the 49ers/BUF game to see this in action.

I watched all the Goodwin vs RR snaps from 2016 when RR was in man coverage and didn't feel like Goodwin got the better of RR. I had it at 4 to 4 with RR winning on most times that Goodwin went vertical. Goodwin had more success on non-vertical routes (curl/Out) than he did on vertical routes.

He was targeted twice with RR in man coverage. One was on a Go route where Goodwin had just about half a step. Pass was bad but I gave that win to Goodwin. The other was completed for +15 but it was 3rd and 24. Gave that win to Goodwin too.

In your opinion, is there enough good things from Goodwin that suggest Shannahan can get the most out of him? I read that Shannahan has coached wide receivers before and some have their best years with him. Do you see a different role for Goodwin in SF?
