I've watch two and a half games from Goodwin 2016 - NYJ, @MIA, and 49ers. I stopped watching the 49ers game when RR left the game near the start of the 3rd quarter. I definitely see good things from Goodwin to have a role in an offense. From what I've seen, not too much, I don't think it's a TGabriel type of role because I feel Goodwin is more about straight line speed and is a clear notch below Gabriel when it comes to shiftiness and short area quickness. Shanahan liked throwing short passes to Gabriel and let him YAC. Matt Ryan's accuracy is all world compared to Tyrod Taylor's accuracy which allows the short passing game to help TGabriel's usage. I see Goodwin being used in a similar role as he was in BUF, but we'll see. Maybe Goodwin is scatty enough but wasn't used in that way in the games I saw him. He did catch a little screen pass versus the 49ers and got tracked down by AA.

Actually they were done a long time ago. You just have to have more than just potential to play here...and you have to be healthy. One yr injuries....oh, ok. Two , three yrs. injured...that's a pattern. They are both done here. Why we kept them i have no idea.

was kind of surprised that he doesn't return punts with his combo and size/speed

I think the player that's pegged more for of the Taylor Gabriel role is Aldrick Robinson...but not sure of that. Thoughts?

Nope, you're right. I thought Goodwin was gonna be groomed for that role but he's gonna play outside. Hoping Robinson emerges into a sweet slot. Him and Kerley working the underneath along with McDonald,Hyde,Juice... Me likey.

Taylor Gabriel's role? Sounds like a job for....

You think the Saints take him at 32 or they stay true and go D. That trade is bad for us...now I feel we definitely have to trade up in the mid 20s with our second to leap from teams needing pass rushers.

I'd like to see a big trade down from 1-2.

Have seen little of Robinson till a few days ago, but I think Goodwin is closer to Gabriel than Robinson is. The main reason I don't see Goodwin like Gabriel is Gabriel's ability to get YAC. A part of that is how Shanahan puts Gabriel in position to do it. I shouldn't say Goodwin can't be a run after catch guy, just that I haven't seen it from what I've watched.

Gotcha...that was just my initial thoughts when we brought them both in; that Goodwin would be your deep-field stretching outside WR and Robinson, that chess piece that is moved around a lot to create lateral mismatches (like Gabriel - lines up at all 3 WR positions). But you brought up an excellent point about the straight line speed vs. lateral quickness/speed and how Kyle's scheme is used to put these guys in their best positions. I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll use these pieces...now that we have some actual pieces on offense.
I'm reading on the free agent thread that Cordarrelle Patterson would have been a better signing than Goodwin.

Seconded.

Need more of this, some fire on this damn team.
I know I'm wearing my red & gold glasses here, but I think having these super fast guys playing in cold weather cities can hurt their production. Putting a guy like Goodwin in a dome or here in sunny California could be great for him.

Imagine getting warmed up, only to cool down and try to get warmed up again. This would have to affect muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

No excuses just a hunch as I look at this with these incredible glasses of mine

No you're right... hands down. I think the same thing about QBs playing in the cold.
