I'm reading on the free agent thread that Cordarrelle Patterson would have been a better signing than Goodwin.

He provides no help at receiver. I don't see it.

He replaces T.Smith's role in the offense for 1/4 the price and might also be able to help in special teams.

I'll puff to that.

I think going from Texas to freezing his @$$ off in Buffalo probably hurt him, but now that he is coming to sunny Santa Clara things may change for the better!

He's probably stoked as hell to leave cold azz buffalo. They're definitely targeting Corey Davis or Mike Williams at ten after losing Woods and Goodwin.

Too bad we'll steal him first.

Eff Carolina. They have taken all my big-bodied WR's the past several years. They don't get anymore!

lol yup. They need fournette and a John Ross.

Dude with Adams running a 4.33 at his pro day, so 4.4 speed give or take.. makes things VERY interesting.
Goodwin will be a pleasant surprise for us. Have a feeling he will be our most dangerous receiver/weapon.
He could be a superhero.

He loves to dress up.

Could low key be an x-factor. I think he retired from track and field if im not mistaken as well so pulling for this guy low key. I got a good feeling about Aldrick Robinson..I think he just needs snaps and could be a break out candidate on random game days.
We need speed.

He can give us a hit.

Agree

KO & Punt returner?

I hope so. It looks like we are banking on him being our #2 WR. If he can stay healthy, I think he can be a real weapon for us.

He's our #2 WR. He's not returning kicks and I'm not even so sure about him returning punts.

If we're playing madden lol. I don't think so, he didn't play ST last year and I can see why at 180 lbs. we have Kerley for punts, I heard the UDFA Bolden is a ST beast at PR/KR

Watched all his targets from 2016 and besides realizing how bad of a thrower Tyrod Taylor is, I saw Goodwin surprisingly have good success on Curls/Outs, and little success on vertical routes. His 2016 Catch Rate of 43% (Catches / Targets) is not really indicative of his route running, but more about Taylor's inaccuracy on short throws. Many times Goodwin ran Stop9/Curl/Comebacks and got adequate separation, only to have Taylor fail to execute by being inaccurate or late on timing. A QB has to be in his throwing motion just as the WR is entering the break so that the moment the WR is turned around, the pass is midway to its target. Tyrod Taylor is not good at this.

That Goodwin wins a lot on Curls could be because CBs are overplaying his speed and ability to get vertical. Shanahan likes running these types of routes, on the outside, so I think I have an idea how Goodwin will be used with the 49ers. Goodwin's catch radius is small and I was surprised how little separation he got trying to go deep. So while his speed suggests he is a downfield threat, he would require pinpoint throws on those deepballs. He caught two bombs in 2016 (vs Revis and BMaxwell), but they were largely due to the defender napping on their deep zone assignment - both Revis and Maxwell were playing deep 1/3 when Goodwin caught the two long TDs. I'll eventually show with film what I mean.

Another Idea would be for Goodwin to push the DB coverage back to free the underneath routes for the TE. Once the Defense clamps down on the underneath TE routs with short zones or man to man, or when the safety starts to creep up to take on the TE, I can see him breaking deep for a possible deep pass and using his speed to leave the DBs behind.
Drags, screens, curls, deep posts and go's!
